Current bridge is highlighted in Blue. Their proposal is in yellow. I think it's all just creative license at this point.
I'm surprised that they can't do something else to improve the existing pedestrian bridge and add a bridge over Church Street which will always be a challenge for pedestrians because of the 2-way street. They could use the building to get some height for road clearance, but of course would require something major on the other side.

It's going to be a challenge to get dog owners to clean up after their pets - stepping off the trail is an exercise in danger. The likelihood of stepping in a 'bomb' is pretty high, as the dotted tracks show on the concrete. There are already 3 bag dispensers along the trail. But the rest of the park is coming together well for the opening...

Does anyone know if Hotel Hartness is actually under construction or not? I feel we’ve not heard nearly as many updates as we should on this one.
It shows on the county GIS imagery, probably from early this year (near 130 Halston Ave). Appears to be active construction.

They are moving to a new location, yet to be disclosed. The previous location doesn't yet have a consistent high level of foot traffic, despite being close to Fluor Field.

I would go with wood since it will be no higher than a tree house.
What if they relocated one of the old mill water towers and converted it into an observation deck - are they higher than the Unity Park proposed tower? For example https://nextpittsburgh.com/environment/north-parks-iconic-water-tower-finds-new-purpose-as-a-public-observation-site/

Looks like a sixth unit (unit #401) has sold for $825,000.
Someone figured out that it'd be cheaper to buy one of these units than hotel rooms at $400+ per night.

That and the County Square site which are both along the Swamp Rabbit Trail make too much sense. We need put this stadium in the sprawling suburbs.
The proposed stadium would have been on the Swamp Rabbit Trail too. (of course at the current rate of buildout, it might be 30-40 years until it reaches there!)

An interesting analysis of the vote
QuoteThe vote was to allow a formal proposal to be presented to the council. But three people decided that they needed to keep this off the table altogether.

Can't wait until 'they' find something to protest and get upset about it.

I can't agree with you there. Chain retail and chain restaurants are boring, and you can already get your fill of them on all of Greenville's myriad sprawlways. Once chains infiltrate they always just end up driving the rents up to the point that nobody but chains can afford it, and kill off the local businesses. I don't go downtown to go to a mall. If I wanted that, I'd just go to the Haywood Mall.
I haven't studied rents downtown, but imagine that rents are already sky high relative to the Sprawlurbs. Anything operating downtown must already have amazing profit margins to stay afloat. For example Table 301 had some cool concept restaurants that couldn't make it in an environment with too high a percentage of teetotalers.

So, the local arts community dares to disagree with the NYT review "Daniel Fish’s wide-awake, altogether wonderful production is thrilling!"?

Application by MHK Architecture for a MULTI-FAMILY DEVELOPMENT on approximately 0.97 acre located at MAYBERRY STREET AND DELANO DRIVE for 70 apartment units (“The Delano”) (TM# 0055000200115).
Is that area still part of the flood plain? Note that the warehouse building that includes Southernside Brewing is elevated.

While not Google Maps, here's some updated imagery from some of downtown - https://www.mapillary.com/app/?lat=34.84353173712471&lng=-82.40555567089842&z=14.193401210095013&panos=true&dateFrom=2020-11-03&pKey=323097099189374&x=0.33908079641864997&y=0.39016138061870465&zoom=0

Four more days. It’s gonna have such a great art museum that people will completely forget about the Louvre and will want to visit Greenville instead of Paris.
G-Paris instead of G-Vegas?!

As long as it happens later, I don’t see a problem. The important thing is moving forward and advancing the trail, IMO. Hopefully money will be appropriated in the near future?
I agree that the trail to Verdae is the most critical. I still see the Verdae bridge as critical to be scheduled soon after - using the ICAR parking garage as a trailhead, extending the line to the Golden Strip area, etc.

Anyone know what is going on at southeast intersection of Swamp Rabbit Trail and 253? they are clearing trees for about 50 yards from the trail. Is this the county project to explore an underpass/tunnel?
Yes, it's likely that they'll be able to create a tunnel using one or more of the existing bridge tunnels.

Greenville County refuses to accept city's blame for mounting Swamp Rabbit Trail costs
Quote
Disgruntled Greenville City Council members are blaming county partners for mounting costs and lagging timelines as they try to install bridges on an extension of the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail.
But the county isn't having it.
“They’re pointing fingers, we’re giving facts, is the way I see it," county government spokesman Bob Mihalic said.

I agree that their reasoning for not having it this year is "sus" as the kids say. I think Unity is a great spot going forward.
The other rumor going around is that they were too late ordering to be able to obtain that quantity of fireworks, which are temporarily in short supply.

A point made by someone else was that the County's funds were to be used to promote the exhibit. By creating this stink, those individuals (can only assume they are residents of the County) actually raised MORE awareness for the exhibit than could have possibly have been achieved by $7,500. Oh, the irony.
This has been flogged to death, but now even more have pledged financial support.
QuoteThe Community Foundation of Greenville announced June 8 it received an anonymous $7,500 grant for the Hispanic Alliance and it’s “Wings of the City” exhibit.
The charity is also providing a matching grant of $7,500.

From what I can gather:
- Completion date slipped Dec 2022.
And Unity Park will officially open in Spring 2022. Not sure if that includes the tower.

Anyone with a Post and Courier subscription want to write up a brief summary of their article on the SRT extension delay?
From what I can gather:
- Completion date slipped Dec 2022. Reason: Covid set other priorities
- City is uncomfortable with the schedule slip and lack of detail on bridge costs by now.
- May or may not be able to open partial trail as it completes, pending actual bridge schedules.
My opinion only-
- Disappointed that the project could not get a higher priority by now considering the surrounding area investments by businesses. Construction bids and design should have been able to proceed during Covid, pending coordination by the County.
- Bridges are more complicated and expensive than first estimate, especially the Laurens Rd overpass.

Councilors Dan Tripp, Mike Barnes, Joe Dill, Ennis Fant, Willis Meadows, Xanthene Norris Steve Shaw and Stan Tzouvelekas voted to give the $7,500 to Artisphere instead.
Councilors Liz Seman, Lynn Ballard, Chris Harrison and Butch Kirven voted to give the money to the Hispanic Alliance.
The good thing is that they have plenty of lead time for next year's Artisphere, and the Artisphere juror process can include a limit on the maximum amount of body parts that will be allowed into the show.
Here's another Op Ed point of view: Op Ed: Look up — then stand up — for the Wings of the City tonight at County Council

Rails to Trails
in Greenville

I would guess no change to the trail under the bridge because one place stated that the existing walls wouldn't change.
