  1. I didn't think that was cryptic, because cryptic involves giving a hint or two and I haven't really given any. All I am saying is that the other 3 main supermarket chains (Bi-Lo, Food Lion, and Lowes) wont be able to match this deal. This is a deal that will draw everybody to the store to pick up at least 2 out of the 3 items!!! Harris Teeter (and all other chains for that matter) usually set their sales displays up the day before the sale (Tuesday), which means you can narrow it down on Tuesday on which 3 items they are. If you want a slight idea of the specials I will tell you that they are each in different departments.
  2. Hmmm...interesting Harris Teeter has an UNHEARD OF price point on 3 items this coming Wednesday, while I cannot disclose the items or the pricing of the items, let's just say it's a first in company history, and the warehouse is projected to be out of stock on the items by Friday due to the extremely low price point. Get there while you can to avoid rainchecks...
  3. I do not know about the Target Supercenter getting #14, the one near Steele Creek looks like a bomb has gone off if you go there after 5 PM, and the other one up near Concord isn't much better.
  4. Isn't it puzzling while this article still doesn't mention the HT at PLantation Market or the poroposed bi-Lo thats only 2.5 miles away.
  5. Not been there in a while, but this mall seems like it is awfully close to being consdered a "dead" mall. It would probably be best suited to demolish the enclosed mall building in the future and build a single strip retail outlet with discount merchants such as Wal Mart, Aldi's, Dollar General, etc.
  6. Stallings may be underdeveloped, but ugly? I kind of enjoy the last remaining part of Charlotte that actually has empty rolling hills and some houses with land that's more than 1/8 of an acre. The part of Stallings that is west of Old Monroe Rd. (from CPCC on east) is actually not that bad if you disregard Rt. 74 The landscape out near Stevens Mill and such is actually quite inviting. If you are saying that Potter Square is ugly, then I can agree with you there, but the rest of it doesn't look that ugly to me.
  7. Yes, nothing is holding Bloom back. They are building a Bloom in Fort Mill off Carowinds Blvd right next to a golf course that is a VERY affluent area.
  8. Anything could happen with Park Road. At one time Park Road shopping center had an A & P, Montogomery Ward, J.C. Penney, and a lot of old time stores if I am not mistaken. I wouldn't be surprised if Harris Teeter expanded this location eventually but the problem is that the USPS has a post office almost right next to the HT. I do not know if they would be willing to movesince that USPS location is very busy. Also, that parking lot at Park Road is set up like Cotswold with those sideways parking spaces that don't save much room for anything else.
  9. The problem with Manifest opening another store is that a lot of their material and stock is "collected" over a period of time. You would have to have at least a few thousand or so used CD's and some albums and tapes, plus a variety of decent imports to get a store like Manifest off the ground. Maybe they could shut down all the useless and overpriced strip mall used CD stores and combine it into a new Manifest. By the way, the Manifest on South Blvd. has always been great, but recently it's a pain to get there because of the traffic caused by the construction of the idiotic light rail line.
  10. Would have to think it would be your typical strip mall tenant.
  11. The Harris Teeter at Gaston Mall has no real economic value to keep it open. Sales have not climbed over the years, and HT corp. is trying to stray away from stores outside the corridor. Hence the closing of Kings Mountain, Taylorsville, one store in Boone, and Winthrop. I think a Bi-Lo or Food Lion would serve that community much better. Don't forget, there's still one other HT in Gastonia anyway. It's not like there wont be one anymore. The other HT is busier anyway.
  12. Speaking of Greensboro, there used to be a local seafood/meat place down in the center of town near the south end out near Randleman Rd. but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. All I know is that it was like the old days where you would walk up to the counter and a butcher (not a teenager) would slice your meat or pack up your seafood. I do not know if it is still there now though, because last time I went there was in 1999.
  13. Haven't been there yet or heard of that one. Do you happen to know which road it is on?
  14. Personally, I can do without Sushi bars, sit down areas, and expanded florists in grocery stores. The reasons being, I go to local authentic Japanese restaurants for good Sushi, if I want to relax and talk with friends I don't go to the grocery store to do it, and third I order 99.9% of flowers I purchase online. Maybe this is the exception, but I still think traditional supermarket setups from the 60's-70's were a lot more laid back than the ones you see these days where they slam you with so many displays, coffee shops, and other items right at the entrance that you can't even enter a store without being overwhelmed.
  15. At least that scenario would involve more competition. That way, you would have a Lowe's Foods, Food Lion, and Harris Teeter (2 in 2008), and a Super Bi-Lo (Plantation Market), all within 3 miles!!! WOW, talk about that area suddenly exploding.
  16. This article is interesting as they seem to be anti HT...they say the closest grocer is the Food Lion, but the Plantation Market HT is less than two miles from the Crossroads Grill. No doubt they dont want to pay HTs prices if they were used to Winn Dixie. Why don't they petition for Go Grocery or another Food Lion instead of Lowe's?
  17. I don't have any info. on this, but I think it's "old" news that HT wants to build stores anywhere south of 485. I mean they already have a monopoly (45+ stores in Meck county) so it shouldn't be surprising that they are planning yet another one. They will be pretty dissapointed though in 25 years when another grocer is in Charlotte and competition takes hold of the city. HT will be left with 4 or 5 dozen understaffed stores that do average business, rather than 20 fully staffed stores that do killer business. It will take time, but eventually there will be competition for HT. Relatively speaking, they are a smaller size grocer. Look at the amount of stores Kroger, Publix, and Piggly Wiggly have in comparison to HT's ~200 or so stores.
  18. They could just make the exit into the Garden Ridge parking lot or near there. No one is ever parked on that side anyway. Now the inner loop exit is another story. Theres a Bi-Lo and all that mess on the other side so I'm not sure where the westbound exit ramp could be built.
  19. Makes you wonder why they closed it if they are now going to open it up again not a mile from there at The Palisades.
  20. The old Lake Wylie HT, not a mile from their "new" proposed location at The Palisades. http://img452.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0255xv3.jpg] http://img275.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0256bn9.jpg] http://img452.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0257qr4.jpg]
  21. It's sad, but nowadays unless your family income is more than $75,000/year, HT could care a less about you. It's too bad a smaller chain can't go in there...the space is pretty small though for another grocery store. It should be a little better when the old Rock Hill Mall is demolished to make way for the Super Bi-Lo. That is only about 2 miles from Winthrop.
  22. Yes, another reason the theory is messed up, is because the store at Rt. 51 and Lawyers Rd. does the least business than any HT, but they keep that one open because there is a Lowe's Foods about 1000 ft. from it. The Winthrop HT did more business than the Mint Hill one but they decide to close that one? That leaves only two stores in the Rock Hill/Fort Mill area. I know there are set to be a couple in Lake Wylie, but to me that doesn't count as "Rock Hill." Yeah they are too stubborn to move there because there are trailers and old houses across the street from that plaza and that would make HT seem middle class...lol
  23. That is a terrible corner. Someone died there last year. Imagine what it will be like now. That Bi-Lo will definitely add another choice for those people in nearby Stallings who used to shop at the old Winn-Dixie on Potter Rd. Once you cross into Union county, the demographic switches pretty quickly. HT's stronghold will probably be confined to the one square mile area around "Plantation Market." However, HT is planning another store further down on Potter Rd. in 2008.
  24. I dont know if it is all the press...ask the average person to walk from Eastland Mall to Albemarle Rd. at dusk.
