  1. So we're coming home from the River Bank Run today through Heritage Hill and my realtor wife said, "Hey I've been meaning to show you that Heritage Hill house that (client) bought." When we drove past it, I said, "Wait, they've been talking about this house on Urban Planet very randomly!" So, I have the scoop. Her client bought it to live in and occupy and is spending a bunch to restore it all. I guess they tore it all down to the studs in some places and want to make it a great place to live in...not looking to flip it. We'll pass along this thread to her - I don't know if she knows all the history or not.
  2. Quick question for all you UPer's... I know I saw some drawings recently online for the Wealthy Heights Initiative, but now I can't find them anywhere. I've searched UP and multiple other sites (Dwelling Place, EHCN and others involved) and can't find any of the drawings. Anybody know where I can find them? I'm tired of searching...THANKS!
  3. I know this is kind of last minute, but I was just on Urban Planet this morning and thought that this seminar might be of interest to UP folks. My wife is doing a seminar along with a lender on how to buy Foreclosures, Short sales and Rehabs. She was just telling me that last month the percentage of homes sold in the area that were foreclosures was over 50%! It's tomorrow morning at 10am at St. Marks' Episcopal Church downtown. There's more information at http://www.juliegr.com/foreclosure/rehabs.html There's RSVP info on that page. Thanks! P.S. There's no admission charge and there's free parking (but with this bunch I know you're not sweating about where to park downtown!)
  4. C'mon, where are the drawings and plans? I expect better of UP! Just kidding, I know some of you are probably doing all you can to get the scoop...I'm very eager to see them, though. Hope something gets out there soon.
  5. Even tough the general merchandise is clearing out slowly, grocery should stay stocked until the move. What surprised me (from someone I know who works there) is that the new store won't be open until April...and that's sooner than planned by a week. It's already hard to shop there when they're out of some important general things...it's been pretty quiet when I shopped there.
  6. Wow, two posts in a row for me... Anyone see the rendering in the Press this morning? WHAT was that? It looks like a glass block attached to a parking garage. I was really cheering for this, but that new rendering makes me sad. =(
  7. I would love to see them increase the film part of it since they'll be on that corner. That would be as close to a downtown theater we can get for now. I feel like it's barely advertised that they show art films there now. I think the exposure would be good for them.
  8. Was that the place that wanted to move into 1006 Cherry (the old "spider House") a few years ago?
  9. I always thought that the south end of the Art Museum was dedicated to that and Zamboni storage...but I could be wrong.
  10. There was also a "Celebrate The Grand Reopening" ad in the paper yesterday. I thought for sure they were done for. That's good news - I had a good diner there the time I went.
  11. Yeah, not even on sidewalks...just right down the road. =)
  12. Noticed some kind of women's (consignment, maybe) clothing store in the basement of 5 Lyon the other day. That's where Javasphere was for a very short time...had mannequins and signs out front that hopefully would bring people in. A little off the retail path though - maybe going after college students. Speaking of Javasphere...by the time that I noticed it was there, it was gone. Same thing with the gallery on Monroe Center. There are other places like that that I've seen around town. What's up with that? Do these people think that they can just open doors and be profitable? I'd figure that if I opened a business I'd plan on a minimum of a year to be losing money until I'm more established. Oh well, hope this one lasts! At least Schuler's is going for a minimum 3 years! (hopefully WAY longer than that..they'll get a lot of my $$!)
  13. Maybe someone should make the Downtown GR retail tycoon video game. We could all try our ideas and see what works! =)
  14. I guess since I'm not a drinker, I'm not familiar with the "severing" of beer. Do they cut the cans in half or something?
  15. We knew that's what you meant... (only jeans on cooler days or when shorts are in the laundry...)
  16. Same here...that's what I'm wearing now. Should I be personally offended?
  17. Funny thing is that I rarely read the Advance, but I did this week and saw that article. Did you notice that the lady quoted at the end said that she was so glad this was being built because parking at the airport is TERRIBLE. Now I don't fly much, but I've always been able to park in a surface lot really close to the terminal. Granted, it was really expensive for being out in the cornfields but it was always easy. Especially easier than navigating a huge parking garage. I guess even at the airport people like to complain about parking.
  18. And to think, I just bought season tickets to help them stay around. Have to admit, the plea for help did get me more willing to fork over the season ticket money...I'm very glad that things are going so well now! Thanks HG - now maybe he can focus on the new PAC! It would be a crying shame to not have Broadway shows in GR.

  20. Oh, no! We were all inside on or by the couches. I had to leave really early, which was too bad. I'm sure they had a good time.
  21. My sister-in-law works for Alticor and we just happened to be talking about how many asains there were downtown this weekend and she said it was some sort of meeting for Alticor. She said they were all touring her work place and even taking photos of the vending machines.... =)
  22. Looks like the view from my wife and new baby's room...I've been looking at that same view the last few days! (although I enjoy the view, I'm ready for them to come home!)
  23. To add to the fun, I wanted a snack for me and my kid on Saturday morning and went by Grand Central at 11:00am. CLOSED until noon. Makes sense for a normal Saturday, but like these other stores I'd make sure to be open when Festival is and have signs and all kinds of stuff trying to bring people in. BTW, loved the MC sales pitch!
  24. Well if that isn't the coolest thing ever! Check out the visual calendar...nothing too exciting since it's in it's beginning stages, but this will be cool to look at when they are further along! All these construction cams are very fun!
  25. There a Rite Aid "next" to the hospital. Came in handy when "someone" forgot to bring a blank videotape for our ultrasound...I was thankful I could walk a block to the store. Although there should be something right in the CBD, close to hotels and businesses. I can't tell you how many times while staying in Chicago I run into the Walgreens for a something I need.
