  1. I'm guessing this is it: Hitachi Opens New Charlotte Ink Research and Development Center Hitachi America, Ltd. announced today the opening of its ink research and development facility in north Charlotte. The new facility, located at 5900 Northwoods Parkway, will initially employ five people. http://charlottechamber.com/index.php?src=news&refno=5237&category=Economic+Development+News
  2. Hi - As one of the Charlotte posters I hope you read my full comment and didn't misunderstand. I have NO doubt of Nashville's ability to grow its skyline and don't even have a problem with the idea of a 750 ft+ tower. I just questioned if a 750ft residential tower was doable in Nashville. I do agree with the other poster that one just doesn't see this in Nashville as compared to Miami and Atlanta. No harm meant and I love your city as well. Edit. - I don't see how any of the posts were equating a small town mentality view of Nashville to be honest. That said - if you took it that I am certain I can speak for all of us when I say that is not true and our group regularly get inspired from other cities (which was the origin of the other poster's first post about 505 CST.)
  3. ^It should probably up shortly (the times of each performer) but Leanne will likely not be till Sat evening. Here's current roster: http://charlottepride.org/entertainment/ On a related matter - I hope everyone has seen that the Levine Museum of the New South is having an exhibity (Grand Opening tonight) called ““LGBTQ Perspectives on Equality". It will include a history timeline of CLT LGBT events and as far as I know is the first major exhibit of LGBT Life in the Carolinas!
  4. I'm wondering if those towers need to start going before you see any one sign up? The thing I give Ballantyne is they will build first and then market ready to move in spaces. Not saying that's feasible for some of the sizes of proposed Uptown Towers - though I think Portman could.
  5. That is gorgeous, but I'm also curious/skeptical for that building as all residential. At least in Nashville. It's height is proposed as 750 ft which is almost the height of our own Duke tower. I just don't see that in Nashville. That said if they do it - good for them!
  6. I agree with this. My own point for quoting the op-ed peice was the one point I quoted - you can't manufacture funk/grit/street cred into a city - it has to happen organically. I think Uptown leaders have to focus on the bigger needs of Uptown mainly residential, top businesses, main visitor attractions (would love more museums) and adult entertainment (not xxx but jazz clubs, bistro dining, coffee houses, and destination retail (apple store, a few high end boutiques, etc). This would all serve to increase the marketing cache of the city for business relocations and convention /tourism biz. I just think it's funny that there has been talk (as referenced by Larson to create "funk" in Uptown as if it was something that can be sprayed on a blank wall.
  7. From CBJ: "The company is looking in southwest Charlotte for what Peribere says will be a multi-building "campus" with room for 1,300 employees. Sealed Air will lease space initially, but the location of that office space wasn't disclosed."
  8. No matter where it goes - it's good for the city. I liked that little logo/saying that was mentioned by the last speaker that was along the lines of Charlotte is the Corporate HQ location of the state. (Not exact quote). It's a little corny and not 100% true - but it sounds a lot better than Charlotte, USA!
  9. Interesting that McCroy just mentioned working with UNC Charlotte. Makes me wonder if the space will be somewhere in UCity area. Michael Barnes who represents the area spoke as well and mentioned Light Rail Extension as well.
  10. Agreed about hopes for Uptown location. If even half of Portman maybe that's enough to get that to rise - it's a great place for a corporate logo on a building. Here's hoping you are right about maybe another announcement.
  11. Are they moving the HQ here? I ask rhetorically (until 10) as the list of places they are moving the positions from + the average salary doesn't seem to match the product "Sealed Air Corp., a Fortune 500 company known for making Bubble Wrap" Never mind - I didn't see rjp212 CBJ citation!
  12. ^excellent point about Thain. Today's announcement btw is now at 10. Chamber will be livestreaming today's announcememnt: https://twitter.com/cltchamber/status/491925608847249408 Edit: I just realized it was always at 10!
  13. Thank you, Keith Larson! Funkiness can’t be the object of a “master planning process.” Funky doesn’t come from “Re-Imagining the Civic Commons.” You’re not going to find your funky on flip charts or through facilitated brainstorming sessions in sterile conference rooms. The “organic development” they want is, after all, organic. The funk factor is, by its very essence, free range. And free range, like funky, is often a little ragged around the edges. Something the Uptown Crowd and Charlotte GuvCo are just not comfortable with.
  14. I wish it was based on anything. It was actually just a pure blind dart thrown based on WSJ story today of them, hearing that they have been doing some local hiring, and knowing through a friend that there's been buzz about Livingston location not being necessary with 42nd street operations. Then again I hear the same thing about UBS and Stamford every now and then. Good point though about Gov and Myers Park.
  15. ^This I do think 40k is realistic at some point in the next 15+ years, but I do think the stadium could stand to expand now and would be much better off with a plan for a 25k expansion.
  16. Is the Gov coming back though? If this kind of 250 consulting jobs merit a visit, what could be significant enough to be done tomorrow vs today when he was in town?
  17. That's what I was thinking...
  18. Interesting that a comment on the article says "Way to go Charlotte.....more high-end jobs coming to Charlotte along with new Bldg....!!!" (bolded emphasis mine). Is this someone (the commenter) just assuming/reaching?
  19. Is this the big McCrory announcement for 3 today?
  20. An interesting before/after photo spread of Detroit that is not just the usual glory to decay but some cases of renewal. I was impressed particularly with Orchestra Hall and Book Cadillac Hotel. Gives me some hope for the Carolina Theatre. http://www.freep.com/article/20140722/NEWS01/140721003/THEN-NOW-Watch-Detroit-change-before-your-very-eyes
  21. I would be really doubtful about Stone but who knows. Edit: It would be cool if it has to do with CIT Group moving HQ here.
  22. It just makes me wish that much more this line was in current construction to at least JCSU to the west and plaza to the east
  23. Been thinking of this thread/topic a lot with all the developments going on in Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem of late. I think we are a very lucky state to have so many strong and growing cities.
  24. Take it with a grain of salt but I understand a rep from Google will be speaking at UNCC Portal building in early August
