if they did Chicago-St. Louis, and could get it in the median of 55, that goes right up to McCormick Place and could be awesome.  But, 55 goes right by Midway Airport as well. The El stops at both locations too.  Chicago has so many rail lines (for METRA too) that, they could work out a deal much like Sunrail/FDOT was thinking with BL ala Sunshine Corridor.

There is a YouTube creator, Lucid Stew, who has a lot of great videos and analysis on city pairs and routes.  They can be long and get very much in the weeds, but I'll put them on as background noise sometimes.

it is their new concept kind of store. They have one in Ocala that I saw about a year ago and another one somewhere else in Central Florida. They are a lot smaller in footprint.

I've been going to Edgewater / Shine / Paramount for years, all smaller stores with a more affordable options.  This is the same concept as Ecco plaza, without the beer. It'll be good for a quick shop, but won't be my everyday grocery store.

This is now the closet Publix to me.  I've been a couple of times, and the selection seems more limited, with generally only more expensive products available.

  4. United Arts posted a new Creative Placemaking Director role this week, funded by DDB/CRA.

United Arts of Central Florida is seeking a Creative Placemaking Director to lead new initiatives in public and private partnerships that champions the use of local arts and culture to elevate community vibrancy, foster social connections and supports local economic development in Downtown Orlando.  This role requires a blend of artistic passion, strategic thinking, and community engagement expertise.

The Creative Placemaking Director will have a vision for activating public and private spaces to increase pedestrian traffic in our urban areas and positively impact economic prosperity of downtown businesses.

I would love to see stats like O&D stats, Orlando to Miami and back versus Miami to Orlando and back...where is the demand higher stuff...

Also the stops in between!  I was going to ride to a birthday weekend in FTL, but the airbnb we got wasn't as walkable to everywhere we wanted to go, so we ended up driving so we had the vehicle down there.

    Why not NIMBY?

For me, it was the massive blank garage walls.  If they were wrapped by units to give a better connection to the ground level, I would be fine with it.  These buildings need to give back to the ped experience, or we will end up with a bunch of islands in the sky that still aren't walkable and engaging.

The sign says Davila Homes, but I didn't see anything on their website about this projects. Seems like they mostly do single-family? Maybe I read it wrong.

I don't remember the details, but at some point maybe a year or 18 months ago there was new activity on the permits.  When I was ED at The Milk District, I tried getting in touch with the owners to see if they'd be open to a PD and plan amendment to include live/work units facing Bumby. Phone went to voicemail and email bounced.  Hopefully this developer can get these built!

  8. Zymarium Meadery is opening next month at Mills and Lake Highland (old orange studio).  I got to go to their first day of soft opening yesterday.  The place is beautiful, I enjoyed learning about mead (something I'm new to) and it's going to be a great addition to the area, and the first business of its kind for the region. 1563188823_IMG_1511Large.thumb.png.00c547e3babd57789ad7bdd1429e850c.png

  9. Wasn't there also a proposal just north of the senior center?  That makes three major residential projects on the south end of Lake Ivanhoe... finally, what we need to make Ivanhoe Village more connected into North Quarter.

Gringos actually uses the white warehouse for food prep and storage.

Storage only -- and more for personal storage for the owners, and less restaurant specific.  But changes are coming. 🔮

It should hopefully make that area a little less of a dead zone.  I wish something would come of the old Dr. Phillips Center.

My understanding is that it was recently taken off the market.  Mold showed back up. 🤕

Their piecemeal approach means the city doesn't have to pay for it, they make the developers do it. As long as there is a likelihood the nearby properties will be redeveloped in a reasonable amount of time, they're super unlikely to spend money on it. While I'd appreciate the consistency, if they're spending money on streetscaping, I'd prefer them to focus on areas that currently have overhead lines and lights attached to those poles, it makes a much bigger impact faster.

City staff has floated a top-to-bottom streetscape project within the downtown CRA as part of larger revitalization efforts, specifically citing the piecemeal approach and costs associated with  maintaining so many different types of fixtures, pavements, etc.  Not sure if they'd tear everything out and start from the beginning, or bring some of the older areas up to the standard acorns and hexagonal pavers.  We might see larger/modern tree wells and maybe even bioswales as part of the deal, as I know the same folks have expressed concern about our small tree wells and rainwater mitigation.

I think it's crazy how the City pretty much forced Church Street Plaza to be architecturally unique/pleasing to serve as a Gateway into downtown and yet the adjacent ROWs look a bit rough and uninviting. With the amount of private money being spent redeveloping that corner, I'm still waiting for the City to spruce up that intersection in return:

The Longwood ROW has been landscaped with rows of palm trees and oak trees with uplighting at night along the on/off ramps (not shown), they terraced the berms and added accent lighting at night. Something like this would have been more suitable for a "Gateway" entrance IMO.

The two areas do share something in common. They look better at night! 🤣

    This one?

The Milk District has some on FDOT roads now.   Fun fact, we had to register as a "Local Place Name" with FDOT through County proclamation - much like an unincorporated community - to be able to include our logo/name on them.  They're officially Customized Place Name Signs / Local ID Markers.

Curious to see what they charge for the units. That area could really use a grocery store.

There is a 15000 and a 14000 sf retail space in this building, which would fit some smaller format concepts.   The space along the tracks may be difficult for any tenant that's not a destination.
