  1. My partner and I used to eat at Doc's Gumbo Grill weekly and Doug the owner told us Taco-Sushi was taking his place. We commented on how gross the combination of tacos and sushi seemed, but I guess there's a market for it. Doc's incidentally is supposed to be reopening on Rosewood Drive at some point, but I'm not sure it's going to pan out.

    There's a Tako-Sushi in greenville...found the menu online.

I think it may actually be pretty good.

  2. So I'm still on the USC Engineering Mailing list, and I got this interesting email today:

The Engineering Joint Council and the College have worked with Vehicle Management and Parking Services to open up the Horizon Garage to daily parking. The daily rate is $3, and the rules are simple: arrive no earlier than 6:45 am and leave by 10:00 pm (no overnight parking). You take a ticket, park anywhere in the garage, and pay $3 when you leave. Horizon Garage is a three minute walk from Swearingen and 300 Main.

I would very much like to encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity; indeed, I challenge you! Between now and Thanksgiving, Parking Services will track the number of daily parking tickets in Horizon Garage and compute a weekly average. The College will multiply this average by 10 and make available that amount of additional funding to Engineering Joint Council for allocation to student professional organizations. If the garage fills regularly with daily users, that could mean up to an extra $3,000 to student organizations.

  3. Why would they put the equipment on that particluar lot when the TIF would cover all of Innovista?

Oh, sorry, I wasn't saying the equipment is related to the TIF. I was just pointing out that's what they have funding for, since I just saw the article today.

I'm as curious as you are as to if the equipment means progress on Horizon II or Discovery II.

  4. So the universities that participate have some sort of no cars rule (eg: for freshmen) ?

I wouldn't think so...but USC does have a disproportionately large number of Freshman bringing cars, most likely attributed to the combination of a large in state population and the abundant availability of parking.

I was merely suggesting that by limiting the number of cars on campus, not only would the university be able to free up some real estate, but it would also increase the ZipCar user base.

  5. Does anyone think USC could support a ZipCar service? Looking at some of the other universities that have the service, it seems like USC would be a good candidate given the more urban nature of the campus.

    Universities with ZipCar

In order for USC to support a service like this, more students would need to live closer to or on campus, and the University would have to start actively discouraging students from bringing cars.

As it stands right now, I feel like the vast majority of students bring cars with them, which would make ZipCar somewhat redundant.

  6. Roscoe hired a builder, Michigan- and Charlotte-based Kirco construction, moved some dirt around and placed a construction trailer on the property.

That made me laugh. I drive by there every day, and that pretty much sums up what has happened.

  7. The "Stay in Columbia" website linked in the article leaves a lot to be desired. I sure hope they spruce it up somewhat.

It's supposedly just for mobile devices, which would make the site passable. It could still use some work though (I'd recommend The State's mobile site for inspiration)

However, if anyone looks at the site from the computer, they're definitely not staying here.
