let's be honest.....Yes. I live in NYC and I have pretty much for the bulk of my life, minus the time in the 757, but don't you want to say "bam!!!! in yo face comparable metros.....we have a train!!!!! ...aight...going back to my nyc subway that has been shutdown for reasons involving Hurricane Irene..

I'm usually with you on a lot of topics but can't co sign the "felony" thing for defacing transit property, and harassing transit employees. I can understand the assault part being a felony but seriously, vandalism and harassment are crimes that I don't feel should follow you for the rest of your life! I can't count how many people would be locked up in NYC alone if harassing the bus driver was a felony offense! Other than that, I think it's safe to say that vandalism in Norfolk is relatively low when compared to other metros comparable in size and it's not because of Norfolk's great graffiti task force or anything! It just seems people aren't really interested in destroying things in the 7 cities. Call it good parenting or something but it just doesn't seem to happen. I'm more concerned with Norfolk it's self not maintaining stops and allowing them to go to crap because of natural decay.

I was reading a lot of the comments made on the delay from the link you provided. Its amazing to me how many people know what they evidently don't want but can't seem to think of an alternative. What blows me even more is the amount of knowledge they seem to have for why it Lightrail is a bad idea but absolutely nothing when it comes to alternatives. Who are these people????

I would really like to catch up with you before you leave. I strongly believe we can make some serious moves together. I'll try facebook As far as the train thing. I do believe a rugged test would be better. Kinda like, if it could work in the snow, it can work anywhere. But that isn't necessarily true when considering that heat also has effect on trains and tracks. Two test would be best but they could just go and check out some of the other systems in different cities with weather systems that differ from one another.

Yeah. It's pretty sad. All and all, I just really hope the city has plans on upgrading the stops as soon as possible. I understand that money is low and some, if not most, larger cities in the USA don't even have a rail system, but does this mean that Norfolk should settle for less for that reason alone. I don't believe so and I intend on making a point of it. Who's with me?

Funny, when I mentioned that, no one gave a rat's #$% and shot me down for not just being happy that it was built at all. Honesyly homeslice, I'm just assuming Norfolk has plans on upgrading the stations in the coming years and this is just for "starters." But I do intend on finding out because those things look worst than most of the bus stops actually. What's funny about it is that even in the planning stages, this is what they envisioned. It's not even like their was a plan that included better stations but it had to be downgraded. Actually, maybe their were plans that I just didn't see. I don't know. Hope they step it up later.

I agree with that urbanlife. I believe a lot of the leaders in this city have been attempting, lately, to achieve some sort of rebirth of the "ole days". It's a trend. Ironically, a lot of the newer designs are disliked by most elders I speak with. They don't want to see Norfolk how it used to be. They want to see it better! Like most trends, this will fade out, hopefully. But I do believe we should make more of a point of voicing it to the powers at hand. "Who's with me?!"

oh yeah, Glassgow......If I recall correctly, those were the designs for the stations well before the budget was blown. Nice try homie but that 40% info is new. Those designs were the "goal."

so, seriously? No one is gonna talk about the fact that all of our stations look like Tipis!? Seriously? Do they plan on expanding these are do we need to say something about it? I have searched all over the net for similar styles and the only ones that come out looking like that are streetcar designs, maybe.

I'm here! New Yorker that's lived in the Norfolk area in brief stints throughout my life thanks to an eclectic family. I'm ready to meet up in person and make some things happen for this place!

This is simple. Everything about Hampton Roads (or should I say Norfolk, since the defense presence in Norfolk is the only real reason this place is going through what it's going through) is based on a conspiracy to keep the area relatively simple while also not easy accessible from the outside. Come'on people! Does anyone besides myself see the clear conspiracy here!? Really? Norfolk get's passed up by the interstate system and High Speed Rail, with over 1 and a half million people in the metro? No one on this forum thinks this is interesting? The real question is how the gov of this state, and for that matter, country managed to convince us for so long that they just didn't know or just can't afford to take care of the Hampton Roads area! Let's go people! The eyes! Let's open them por favor!!!

I'm very excited to see light rail in Norfolk and for that matter, the 7 cities. I am a bit disappointed in how some of the smaller details in the design have been handled though. For starters(no pun intended), why were such little shelters designed for the stations? Honestly. I have never seen such small house-looking shelters on any other systems other than routes with no shelters, and even then, the platform is significantly raised. I wish corporate sponsors would have taken over there. I see it a lot in large cities. I know their was some talk on a corporate sponsor for the entire system but I believe the stations would have been a great move for that. Maybe this will change in the future. And speaking of the stations, why were the platforms designed so short. This seems to take away the opportunity for expansion when adding cars to the trains. Also, what happened to the HRT building that was supposed to be built over top of the plume street station? Now it's just a big space. I hope they plan on doing more than just building a park there. Not for nothing, because I love parks but we have to remember that this is Norfolk, not Va Beach. There isn't a lot a space left and we must build up if we want developmental space. My belief is that maybe, just maybe, Norfolk is really looking at this as "a start" and that by putting something into play, we can have more money in the future to work with. I just think it's interesting that some of theses smaller things were overlooked or handled how they were. No other starter lines I've seen lately look like that. Was Norfolk just that broke?

Test runs? I was downtown today and saw something at TCC about test runs beginning between Norfolk State and Newtown road next month. Any word on that?
