  1. I thought a big reason Frontier's original bid failed was because of this very concern, and the JetBlue deal was thought to be able to get through this process without issue. Little did I know, you're right, reeks of government corruption. I was looking forward to Spirit flights getting a little nicer, Frontier has gotten way worse since their failed merger attempt.

Honestly the only explanation after watching the videos is suicide. Those horns are loud, the gates were down, bells ringing, lights flashing. They had to have a death wish.

Tri-Rail finally has given a start date for the expansion to Brightline Miami station... this coming Saturday, 1/13. Tri-Rail's trains mostly do not meet Tier 4 emissions standards, so the new extension will require users to transfer onto the existing Tri-Rail/Metrorail transfer station until Tri-Rail upgrades its locomotives, but the positive part about this is the original plan to cut the service to the airport in half will not be implemented. https://www.axios.com/local/miami/2024/01/05/tri-rail-train-downtown-when-jan-2024

My understanding is the dual locomotive setup is physically capable of about 150, but the FRA has not certified the setup for those speeds anywhere, so both sides are kind of right. We don't really know if the FRA would be willing to certify it, or really how long that would take and the cost of that certification as compared to just going electric with equipment that has been certified already. I don't think anyone really knows.
  7. SeaWorld has submitted a development application for "Starboard DP." a 504-room hotel on 29.92 acres. During a previous earnings call, SeaWorld said its targeting 2026 to open hotels on the property https://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/news/2023/12/11/seaworld-files-plans-for-hotel-near-theme-park.html?ana=RSS&s=article_search
  8. We, as a country, have common carrier laws for phone companies to make sure the phone companies cannot use their platform to prevent speech. Net neutrality is the same thing for the internet (which I might add the left has strongly pushed). These companies are supposed to be providing a platform, a dumb pipe, if they don't want to have liability for the things that happen on said platform. If they want to curate their content (beyond removing illegal content of course), they should have full liability for everything every user says, because they're no different then MSNBC or Fox News, pushing a narrative and, curating content. Big corporations like Google and Facebook should not have an exemption of liability if they are not going to allow free speech on their platforms, and this has been a change in interpretation in the law since Biden became president and, as the Twitter files has shown, abused their authority and violated the First Amendment. Again, we must remember that the main reason that many users were banned from Facebook and YouTube and Twitter was because the FBI and the Biden administration demanded and paid these private businesses to suppress free speech. That isn't right. X, along with the other platforms, have complicated algorithms to determine what content to push to users who have not directly subscribed to any user, and X has not indicated they are going to push his content out to those who don't subscribe to him. Alex Jones, like everyone, is liable for slander and libel, as he should be,.
  9. I don't like Alex Jones and don't believe anything he says, but freedom of speech is important. If you don't defend the freedom of speech of Alex Jones, you don't believe in freedom of speech because you clearly don't believe in it and won't defend it if you disagree with it

Yes, that route is supposed to be electric They are stuck at 110mph max from Cocoa-MIA until it is grade separated. The only way I see it being feasible to increase speeds further is if the people along the route get annoyed enough that they bridge over the tracks. If a bunch of them get upgraded, maybe they'd consider doing the rest, but we're definately a long way off from that. The St Lucie River and Ft Lauderdale bridges that are going to be replaced soon are supposed to eliminate road crossings and increase speeds on those areas, the former of which I believe currently only allows 25mph, the slowest speed limit on the route. Tacking individual problem spots on a small scale seems like a more likely strategy to shave a few more minutes off the trip. Also, Brightline has said the new route to Tampa WILL be faster then 125mph, but they have not said HOW they are going to do that (whether they will do it with diesel or new locomotives that can do both diesel and electric.

My understanding was the issue was with some roadway markings, signage, and vehicle detectors at crossings to go 110mph. Brightline claims they're capable of faster in the dual locomotive configuration they run their trains in, and they claim they are targeting faster speeds for the Tampa expansion. With the speeds they're doing, they could have gotten away with a single locomotive from my understanding (although it still helps with acceleration, and is future ready for more passenger cars)

Brightline is increasing the train speed from 90 to 110mph from WPB to Cocoa, reducing the trip time by about 8 minutes. Brightline is also adding an additional train daily, leaving Miami at 1:45pm and leaving Orlando for the return trip at 5:50pm, made possible by the increased train speeds with existing equipment. The new schedule (along with a new Tri Rail schedule) has also been modified to allow easier connections to Tri Rail at Miami Central, which should launch service in a few weeks as soon as final approval is granted.
  13. It received a $60 million renovation 2 years ago. It received a $208 million renovation in 2014. For a venue without a permanent tenant, 2 major renovations in 10 years seems excessive, let alone approving a third. And every one of these renovations is more expensive then UCF's entire stadium.
  14. The chants at college campuses are "Gas the Jews! Kill the Jews!" I guess you can call that anti-Israel or anti-Zionist and claim the people screaming that are not antisemites and really love the Jews, but the dictionary defines this as Nazis and antisemites, you're just redefining words.
  15. They likely are. DeSantis and everyone on the right has condemned these people. DeSantis made it clear they are not his supporters, he does not support them, and they should be publicly identified and disgraced as the pieces of crap they are. DeSantis even went one step further and says any Nazi who is not a citizen should even be deported. Democrats are not condemning these people, and in fact, some of those supporting them are holding prominent positions in the Democratic party.
  16. These rallies where Jews were literally chased and trapped looked like an awfully large number of Young Democrats. And what is a Neo Nazi if its not people who are supporting those who literally want to cleanse the world of Jews? And the entire Democrat party is NOT condemning this "fraction of young people". I don't see any movement to kick out these Neo-Nazis from the party from the political elites, because they understand that "fraction" is large and they need their votes. In fact, they even want to appease them by pushing for a cease fire to allow Hamas to reload.
  17. They literally ARE neo Nazis. Jews are being tortured and even killed in America now by the young Democrats. Literally. Not figuratively. This isn't like when the left calls the right neo-Nazis, where they are just using it figuratively in that they believe policies may eventually lead to the collapse of all society, and the term sounds really bad, so even though it has no relation to Nazism, lets use the term anyways.... No, these are true, honest to god Nazis that are Democrats. No joke.

Yes, CSX also happens to be how Brightline takes deliveries for trains, cars, and associated parts
  19. That was originally the plan, but my understanding is with the explosive growth and demand, they should reassign the gates more quickly and wait for a future phase of terminal C to be built before trying to do an extensive renovation.

Brightline has announced a partnership with Distribusion Technologies, which is a company that integrates transportation ticketing with travel retailers. Brightline now shows on sites like Google Maps and Expedia. Google Maps now appears to show ticket information, live departure times, etc... its supposed to track the trains live as well to give exact times of departure and arrival including delays. https://porthole.com/brightline-partners-with-distribusion-technologies/

hopefully the replacement bridge near there should be completed around the same time so it hopefully will avoid any delay. hopefully there is also demand for express service at some point, when they get more trains
  22. Its not the free market, its how much money the government is printing combined with government caused supply chain issues that is causing rampant inflation. If it was the free market causing this, no doubt there would be some place, somewhere, that has not drastically increased the price of burgers, and if that were the case, I no doubt would buy their burgers instead. Nobody's going to sell a burger for a dollar or 2 when they have to pay employees $21/hr, and that means all the people who now got a 50% raise actually have less spending power, since the cost of every item they consume, and their rent has doubled, so they're hurt the worst. Its very sad.
  23. We're not beotching that someone is making $21/hr, we're beotching that the price of a burger has tripled...

The video was technically about the boats.... but my understanding is on the 110mph track, because people keep going around the gates, they increased gate down times and installed quad gates, along with sensors to detect if a car is trapped in the quad gate area to give the train more time to slow down before impact. I think the gates can takes 2-3 minutes from lights flashing to lights off because of this, even though the train passes in seconds.
  25. Yeah, but when your berated by the people who are supposed to help you, "to protect and serve", thats not accomplishing the primary goal of the police department. And from my experience in customer service, if you start being aggressive with people, they are aggressive back to you... every single time. I know it is drilled into the cops heads that everyone is out to get you, but the vast majority of people are not out to get the police, the vast majority of people still support the police. But the police should be nice.... yes, they need to be forceful, especially with the crybabies, but the first few times they ask something, it should be super friendly, every time. Some cops do this, and they seem to do a MUCH better job. Infact, I'd say probably half the cops are nice. But there are plenty of ones that are mean to everyone, including victims. I fully agree with younger people acting ridiculous. BUT.... You aren't making things any better by having the police treat them like a piece of crap for literally no reason. Your rude cop about a broken headlight is a perfect example. If you have a simple thing wrong like a headlight out, and the cop can't be nice telling you that, how in the world are they going to be able to communicate with a victim of a more serious crime to be able to effectively help the victim? They obviously can't. The larger picture is cops like the one that is rude to you about a headlight being out are going to make people hate the police. They are putting the other cops who aren't misbehaving continuously at risk, literally. They are doing a disservice to the entire police force. That IS the lager picture. I want cops dealing with more real problems then just babysitting some people while watching a football game. Private security can handle it at bars and clubs most of the time, why can't they at football games and road construction projects? I'm not arguing for fewer cops, I'm arguing that cops should be reallocated to be given more time to deal with problems with real victims. In Orlando, my house is broken into, realistically, all the cop is going to do is make a report. If I'm a victim of a hit and run, most of the time, all I'm getting out of the police is a report. They don't try to visit nearby businesses to see if they can get camera footage, they don't do any legwork to see if there is witnesses... but if when I am a victim, I actually had a cop that tried to investigate the crime and do something about it, its going to make me love the police way more, whether they solve it or not, because at the very least they TRIED to help me. And the more they try, the better they are going to do. Watching people at a football game is not making anyone love the police. Disney handles their private security really well, the stadiums and teams should copy how they handle security. Seriously, go to an airport without TSA but rather private security, and then go back through with TSA, and see which one looks more like "some bottom of the barrel scraped, private security apes or the drunken jerk public rabble and riff-raff any day" Private security, just like cops, can be both good and bad. Places like Disney and Universal demonstrate exactly how private security can be way more effective then real police, and how they can work in partnership with the real police as well to reduce their manhours needed of sworn police officers. I am not pro replacing the police entirely with something private, if it appears someone needs to be arrested and freedoms stripped, I want a public police force doing it and not a private entity.... but much of the police work is not that.
