  1. "The Union" sculpture on Robinson/Eola was lit last night as well. It has very intense colored "disco" balls at the top. I like the sculpture in the daytime, but it seems a bit too bright at night. "Take Flight" was also washed in a light blue light and looked pretty good except the post on land did not look lighted, so it looked incomplete.
  2. I think I'll check it out tonight for happy hour. I went to Magnolia Bar (on Magnolia next to Celt) last night before the Solar Bear game to check it out. It is nicely decorated and they opened up the front with folding doors to the sidewalk. The owner seems pretty nice, but is having a slow start since they haven't done any advertising and don't have their sign up yet.
  3. I did have a nice dining experience at Kassa, the food was very good as well as the atmosphere and service, but I think the price point may be a hurdle. If they can make it until the DPAC opens, I think that would be the type of crowd it would be best suited for.
  4. Yes, a great improvement to that corner, but I wish there was a bit more color-- there is too much grey concrete between the sidewalks and building. At least the awnings are blue. I do like the pet park area for the residents on the other side of the parking garage area, but I can only imagine how many will still bring their pets to relieve themselves in this area instead.
  5. I ran through Parramore today and they have Church Street ripped up for improvements. Here is a photo of the Bridge between both sides of Heritage Park http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php?app=gallery&module=images&section=img_ctrl&img=3280&file=max Here is a view of Church Street: http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php?app=gallery&module=images&section=img_ctrl&img=3281&file=max I also ran over to Lake Davis and Summerlin is tore up for sewer work and brick work. The asphalt has been removed over the bricks from Lake Davis to Briercliff.
  6. That angle really distorts the distance. The VUE looks right next to 55W, but yet 5 times the distance to courthouse when it really is only one and a half blocks away.
  7. Get YELP to sponsor a street fest on Weber with booths for the Ivanhoe Vendors. (Maybe tie it in with the Holiday Wine Walk Virginia St and Ivanhoe have had in the past) or a 2.5k beer run up the urban trail to highland up to New Hampshire and back through the park along Lake Ivanhoe. You need people to experience how short that walk really is and how nice the sidewalk and trail are for getting up there.
  8. Yeah, I think the flock of silver birds in front of the fountain are going to be an iconic photo for Orlando.
  9. From what I understand, it was too expensive to change the signage--their full name is Terrace 390 Rustic Bistro. They have not updated their website they have some updates on: https://www.facebook.com/390Bistro

  11. Terrace 390 (under new owners) is set for a soft opening this weekend and official opening October 1.
  12. I ate there last night, the atmosphere is nice, but yes, it does look very "EPCOTish" especially with the long wood tables and benches in the main dining area. The food prices were reasonable. The servers were friendly but still seem to be unfamiliar with their product. I feel sorry for the waitresses having to wear the German costumes. The beer selection looks pretty good and there is a front and back bar. The space feels pretty open. The food was just OK, but I'll be back because I think things will improve.
  13. No, the finished canopy would go up to south and it currently only extends about 3/4 of the block.
  14. That looks like a south shot from the Florida Hospital Sunrail Depot between Rollins and Princeton. Cool view of downtown. Even though the VUE and the Courthouse are only 1X2 blocks apart, this photo makes them look further apart.
  15. Buddy Dyer posted a photo of the DPAC from a neat perspective
  16. I saw all the winning designs several months ago but I am unable to locate them again. From what I recall my favorites were a flock of flying chrome birds being installed inside the north side of Lake Eola (they started draining a portion of the lake this week). My next was near Panera which were like aluminum spheres and flags on posts in a circular courtyard. The one across from the Waverly was nice too. I didn't care too much for the one on the corner of Central and Eola or the one in the cul de sac by WOB. The giant woman laying on her side near the flower garden by the Disney Theatre with the "soil hill" body could be interesting but the renderings made it hard to determine.
  17. DPAC just posted some cool construction photos on their facebook page, I am actually starting to like it. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151797584637020&set=a.10151797584247020.1073741832.175807817019&type=1&theater
