  1. Has anyone seen a report or talked with someone at city planning about this road request?
  2. Metrowester, I agree that Nashville shouldn't be lumped into cities with identity problems. And on Jax vs. Charlotte, I've lived in both. Jax could not compete with Charlotte (except in football) 10 years ago and it certainly can't now. For having no name recognition and no hook except banking, Charlotte seems to be creating its own hook -- not too big, not too congested, not too polluted, not too crime-ridden, not too hot, not too cold, not too poor, not too rich (oops, we're getting there). Just right -- for now. Of course, we have to figure out light rail and schools. Nobody's perfect.
  3. The heelsplitter split. Just kidding. Article says: "Though public utilities are available at the site, there is still a question of whether Mecklenburg County will be allowed to pump that much additional water into the Goose Creek Basin until an agreement is reached with the state over protection measures for the Carolina heelsplitter. Thomas says wells have been dug on the site and he expects the shopping center to open using a combination of city and well water."
  4. Thanks to both atlrvr and conformity. In return: Tuscan reps. are scheduled to speak about Duo @ Briar Creek to the Merry Oaks neighborhood on Thursday, July 26, at 7 p.m. at Merry Oaks School. Will be part of regular neighborhood meeting, with time for other speakers. Meeting has been postponed a couple of times, so unclear how many neighborhood folks will be able to show up.
  5. What's a QCT? (The only dumb questions are the unasked ones). And Doug Smith writes about Morningside in today's Observer...
  6. Whatever happens, someone will have to provide some kind of parking lot at Little Italy's site for the police to wait for Central Avenue speeders. Traditionally, that's been one of their spots. Not speaking from personal experience or anything...
  7. Back during the Aldi rezoning flap at Briar Creek in early 2006, a Merry Oaks resident asked Portofino's whether they were considering relocating. They said they couldn't because their lease wasn't up. Obviously, things might have changed since then, and the crowds that the grocery store draws next door with special promotions on some weekends certainly change the feel of the place. But I get the feeling Portofino's is in the restaurant business, not the real estate business. Whatever happens at the Little Italy location, I hope folks in the real estate business recognize that the culvert that runs under Central Ave. there is old, very old. And the infill development behind the location will increase the speed of runoff. Tearing up Little Italy's parking lot, adding some greenspace and a place to drink wine and eat calamari outside a la Lulu would be very welcome. Somehow, there should be a way to add greenspace and still use urban design.
  8. I have no information to add to this thread, but I would like to give a big thank you to dubone, CLTNative and others who've posted information about the Central Ave. neighborhood. I'm amazed and impressed, and shared a link to CLTNative's pictures of the Morningside demolition at my neighborhood's blog (Merry Oaks). Haven't been to this forum before, and I'm awestruck about how thoughtful and informative y'all are. Again, just a thanks. Beazer, huh?
