  1. hmm i wonder how tall he will go. i'm crossing my fingers for another downtown highrise here lol. yeh savannah is really moving up the charts in terms of having a great downtown with alot of class. Savannah river landing will add to everything at least doublefold, especially in potential for that side of town. call me crazy, but i think in 15 years the MSA will be second in georgia. think about it, the 2006 estimat is like 320,000 - 330,000 , and in 5 years its supposed to be like 350,000 - 360,000. and its an ever increasing amount of growth.
  2. its totally diffrent, what i was talking about is the actual rstoration of the street itself, i think they are putting in a median. however along with that goes all these developments. thats a good find you made, exciting news. mlk is going upwards, and there isnt anything to stop it lol. 109 investment told me about a bunch of hotels and such going up on mlk and i noticed another 4 - 5 story buildning going up next to the savannah station a couple weeks ago.
  3. the civic center thing was just specualtion, though i personally think it a good idea. MLK is going though a restoration and rebuilding of sorts i believe at some point within the next few years, i'm pretty sure that is official. is that the project oyu mean or is it diffrent?
  4. some pics i found online: ^ I like how the crosses seem to be glowing : ) also, if anyone goes by ellis square regularly, it would be nice to get some updates on the construction and on the news place buildings, the ellis square site is down now so i cant just check from the computer anymore : / and im anxious to see how its coming along.
  5. thats alot of development in a little bit of time for ol' midtown lol. i always thought they needed to build something tall near memorial hospital so that 20 story building wouldnt be all alone there.
  6. wow 2 six story buildings in the middle of midtown savannah suburbia. niiiiice, hey if we dont get mre tall buildings downtown, maybe this is the area that well get a real skyline? seems like developers down there are slowly trying to ease their way into taller buildings though, like the 8 story holiday inn was a step up, but barely more than a baby step, even if it is the tallest bulding on bay street now : ) also, do you know when they plan to build the hampton inn and suites?
  7. thanks, its good to know some people want to show off savannah's charm around here lol
  8. c'mon, nobody has posted anything here with pictures : (. i have no camera myself, thus no way to take pictures, but i was hoping someone could add something...
  9. is there a website for this? and is kimco realty planning on doing anything with chatham plaza or just buying it up?
  10. i do believe it is, but then again everything down there is historical almost os im kinda fuzzy and the exact lines on the zones and all. and i also think if the civic center is torn down or replaced, the desoto hilton should redo its exterior.
  11. yeh, its more than a bit self - prohibiting for savannah to be the way it is about heights... if they get a good looking building that will fit theres nothing wrong with that!
  12. It would help alot if we could bring in a couple large corporate headquarters, thats something savannah lacks downtown.
  13. Hey i just went into annie allmans new store today, its freakin awesome, lookes great, has a rehearsing studio area in the basment about twice the size of the ground level store. all that, and she making her own guitars now! but its a great shop and i think it will be a big attraction for the music buissiness down there, yall should definitely stop in if you can.
  14. actually last i heard savannah had a $16,000 per capita income. you might want to doublecheck your facts and use a diffrent source, i dont think it has increased tht much.
  15. thye probably would have a problem with it but at the same time there's also a ten story building across the street from that parking lot and withing a block of it you have at least 2 more then story buildings and then the johnson square buissness center which is 15 stories. its so stupid, cus those bulding have already proved that height doesnt ruin the feel of downtown, and historic as they may be, a new building could be constructed to fit in with that and above all fill in that damn gap in the skyline. that kinda pisses me off cus that one tall bulding has nothing nearly as tall around it and thought it looks good from ground level, across the river it looks like the skyline is flipping you off : /
  16. i just had an idea for downtown parking. yall know that ugly black matallic parking garage just off broughton right? take that and demolish it and use the space to erect maybe a 10 - 15 story tower. It would be divided into two parts, virtically, parking on one side, and one the other retail for the first 2 - 3 flors and then apartment/ condos on the rest. you would then have not a terribly large footprint for a parking garage, but 10 - 15 stories of it, free parking for the tenants of course. top that off by doing the external facade the same all the way around, hiding all evidence, other than the ground entrance, that there is a parking garage. what do you guys think? i know i come up with some odd ideas but i just want to see savannah grow to be a better city really.
  17. yeh savannah needs more things to do. the younger generation at least is bored. they should have like a teens club or something downtown like hiphuggers but open to teens all the time, and they are in need of a concert hall in savannah too, and maybe and imax theatre.
  18. being that savannah is one of america's prettiest cities, should we not have a picture of the day thread going on? so everybody, c'mon and post some pictures of good ol' S town i found this on wtoc, bad quality, but cool lighting....kinda sad it doesnt get more of the skyline though : /
  19. sure is, in a way i can kinda see savnnah becoming like the d.c. of the south..... historical mostly low or midrises on one side of the river, highrises on the other. do you know how they are coming along?i havent been over the bridge since probably the 4th, they said they were starting construction any day now like 2 months ago. savannah has picked up pace but this project seems as slow as ever.
  20. i think it looks like a great development, and since it is completly inevitable that that area is going to grow, probably by leaps and bounds withing the next few years, im happy that were getting something like this, somethig with variation, unlike out on wilmington, i hate all thos aparment and condos out there, so monotonous. economically i tink it will help the area as a whole, but it looks to be not too far away from the savannah mall, and it said it would have retail there, so it might help the savannah mall by adding people, or be the stick the reaks the horses back..... i guess it just depends on how much buisness and how well it does. certainly an exciting project though!
  21. wow, very nice, i like the whole mini city layout idea, and the sketches makes it look like it will be a very classy development.
  22. good idea, better safe that sorry!
