  1. Are they still doing huge sales overthere?
  2. Anyone been over to the plainfield meijer lately?? Would like to know if things are different from like a week ago and if the grocery section is starting to empty out??
  3. Why do those really huge sales if the new store dosen't plan to open until the 13th of April?? I would indeed think that it's got to be a lot sooner than that until the new store opens. It's only January 16th and it's a little less than 3 months away until the opening of the new store. How long would it take to stock up the new store?
  4. It must have been very recent like this week. I was there last week and it was still there. That's sad news definately.
  5. An Alpine Meijer Update: This is more so for the gas station, but one can now notice that the Alpine Meijer Gas Station now has a electronic gas price board. They no longer have to adjust prices manually.
  6. Today I was over at the Rivertown Crossings mall area and I decided to venture over to the meijer store next to the mall on Rivertown Parkway. I will say this, I like the prototype better over at Alpine and Wilson. I have mixed reviews of the current prototype that is being used in that particular store. On the walls, it wasn't too awful looking, but the hanging signs look old and outdated even though the store was built not long ago. It of course is one of the last stores to be built under the old meijer format which was once used at Alpine. I will say though that video games have been moved up to the front of the store. They used to be in the toy department. I didn't see any video game kiosks though. There is no e4 department so the different departments are scattered around the store. The ceiling is of the color it used to be at Alpine before it was painted snow white. Maybe not as bad though. There are only 14 grocery aisles, and the checkout lanes are the dual lanes which can get confusing. Also, I'm not sure how many sq ft that store is, but seems a lot smaller than Alpine. If a Wal-mart supercenter were to be built around the area, that meijer store could be in trouble.
  7. If the new prototype works out much better over at the Meijer at Cascade, then they should apply it everywhere else. I can however see though that it would indeed cost more $ to modify exhisting stores. But maybe at least put the new prototype in some new stores they build. Plainfield for instance should maybe have the new prototype.
  8. Alpine Meijer Updates: In the grocery section of Aisle 5 near the main grocery concourse, one would find like a beige/green tile on the floor. It may have been there for sometime, but I just noticed it today. Also last week I was there, some tiles in the produce section were stripped due to damage. I don't know if those are fixed yet or not.
  9. A skunk decided to eat from a little can. Once it got it's head in the can, it couldn't get it out. Click the link to read more about it. http://www.woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=7112272
  10. Go over to meijer's remodel site and if you click on the cascade store location, it now contains sketches of what it may look like.
  11. If you go to meijer's remodel site, the cascade store is now on that list for a total store remodel.
  12. Went and took a quick look at the meijer store out by the south beltline tonight on Kalamazoo. That store is a twin of the meijer store on Wilson, but groceries are on the right side and retail on the left side. It only has 15 Aisles and 30 checkout lanes. The checkout lanes have the in store shopping networks on them. Also, that store does not have a gas station on it's property. I believe it opened in 2005 as well.
  13. Oops, meant to post this in Plainfield Meijer topic. Question could be found there.
  14. Today, I decided to make a visit out to the meijer store on Clyde Park avenue and 54th street. I've been wanting to know for quite sometime of how that store was like. So here's the verdict: The meijer store still has it's old meijer signs in capitol letters. They can be found on the building, the sign, and the back of the building if your on the freeway. It has a pharmacy drive up window on the north side of the building. That is on the left side of the retail entrance. Now I must say that building is quite old as well. Where the meijer sign is on front of the building, there is an arch above it. That's a pretty cool arch. OK it's time to go inside the store. I entered the store via the retail entrance. The retail entrance is on the left side of the building if your facing the front of the store. There are two sides of outer doors. The north and south side doors. I went in through the south side doors. If you look on the wall of the exterior, it says Meijer guests, please select a cart before entering the store. I don't know why they have that up there, there are carts in the store. Just right when you enter, there are carts on the left side. Anyways, you will notice a welcome sign that is up above facing west. You can see it in the entrance if your outside. The sign is a lit up sign. And the entrance itself is quite big, some penny horses can be found with gumball machines, stuff like that. I get in and start walking down the front promenade of the store. Just inside if you turn right, they have a chase bank right there on the right side. Move a little ways down and I believe it's the walk in medical center. Then Olan Mills, then a barber shop, or it's either way around. Then walk down further and you have the bakery which is located in the front promenade rather than in the grocery side of the store. However, this bakery sells like donuts and stuff like that. There are more bakery products on the sales floor. OK moving on. I think then after that, we are near the grocery entrance and the guest services desk is located right there. They still call it guest services at that store. The lottery and tobacco area is right there as well. So there is no tobacco lanes there which I like. There are 34 checkout lanes. There are u-scanners in there as well, but I did not see the new full size ones at that store. OK, now about the interior of the store itself. It also hold meijer's latest corporate format in that store, but it's not the same as Alpine or Wilson, but it's very similar. The checkout lanes itself, the lane number signs are not on a pole like at Alpine. The drop ceilings there are very low as well in the lanes and the front promenade. I would only say like 10 ft high. That's much lower than meijer on Alpine. Also, it's drop ceiling throughout the entire store. No roof trusses can be found anywhere. Which makes the store look like it's a small store. Also, it only looks like parts of floor tiling were replaced when they went to the latest corporate format, a lot of the tile on the floor looked like old original tile that's been there for quite sometime. There is blue borders, and wine aisles all have new tile and the baby center Aisles. Heading to the produce department. I guess in size, it's smaller than Alpine's. We had trouble looking for grapes, but someone eventually told us where they were. The store also contains Delicious to go and the deli departments. They are also in the produce area like at Alpine, but with drop ceilings, it dosen't look too attractive. I believe I counted 16 grocery aisles while there today. Also, one could notice that most of the coolers in that store are old coolers that weren't even replaced during it's conversion to the latest format. There are few jet black coolers though. The bottle return room is in the back concourse of the store. Right at around Aisles 6-7. Frozen foods are in the back of the store. They are Aisles 13-16. Also in the east back wall are the meat and seafood departments with seafood on the left and meat on the right. Of course, no new coolers there at all. Looks like the frozen food coolers have not been replaced in ages. Lighting in the grocery section of the store is mediocre. Not the greatest, yet not that bad. Heading to the retail section. It too like Alpine has the latest signs that have the departments on them, some of them quite small due to the low drop ceilings. Also, some drop ceiling panels looked like they needed repair. Lighting was a little more poor in the retail section. So that needs to be improved. Overall, I think when this meijer store was upgraded to it's latest corporate format, they just did the minimums pretty much. Just paint walls, put up new signs, and replace few floor tiles and added coolers. There was never an expansion of the store either. One interesting thing at the store today. Some lady sets off the alarm at the grocery entrance and she knew that she paid for everything, stopped for a minute and then just took off. The greeter got the thing ready to demagnatize whatever item it was that set the alarm off, but she had taken off. She darted so fast. One thing I would like to know. I could remember at one point that the store used to have different looking entrances. Can anyone remember when they were built to the current ones?
  15. Did that meijer store get remodeled to fit meijer's latest corporate format? Does it have an e4 dept? Or is it still like the Grandville Meijer store?
  16. Was that taken at a local meijer store? If so, where? Or did you just find it online somewhere?
  17. Ty for the pictures. They all look very nice. An issue I noticed for that property is that there a set of power poles/lines all behind the store. To try and build a new store on that property would be a challenge.
  18. Thanks for the drawing. Is the customer service desk in that same area where you mentioned that the bank is at? Also where the garden center is at, did that used to be an entrance to the store there? For anyone else that goes to the store often. One thing I would like to know if the lane numbers are still in the shape of the maroon triangles?? I don't think meijer would go for closing the store down to rebuild it. Another idea I may have, but I'm not sure of if the property is big enough is for them to demolish the richwood industries where the old K-mart used to be on 28th SW near the freeway and build a new meijer store there. Or maybe demolish that big super mall on the other side of Kalamazoo and on 28th and build the store there. It's kinda hard to do stuff out in that area.
  19. Tamias: I hope it isn't too much to ask for, but I would like to know if you wouldn't mind drawing a diagram the interior of the meijer store on 28th street and Kalamazoo Avenue. It's been ages since I've last been to that store and don't even remember it at all. But these are some guesses I have though. As to what I think, the retail side is on the right/west side of the store, groceries on the back of the store, and maybe more retail space on the left with clothes in the center??? Or if anyone could tell me in as much detail what the meijer store on 28th/kazoo looks like? Thanks in advance.
  20. I'm doing some reading here and from what I may have read, they had to close down the meijer on Clyde Park for a bit to remodel the inside of that store? Also with the one in Jenison. Did that one close for it's remodel at all??
  21. Into the old plainfield store? When would they demolish the Plainfield store?
  22. Does anyone know if they have started construction yet on building the new plainfield store? I may try to go out to that store before they tear it down. Also, I've noticed that the meijer on Clyde Park Avenue is on the list for a grocery only remodel. Are they remodeling it or no or what's the deal with that? Also, I was there in early 06 and saw their e4 dept. How long ago did they redo parts of that store? And for some reason. I like the entrys at that store.
