  1. Has anyone noticed a few things: It seems as if many of the meijer stores are no longer carrying some products we really enjoy. Things such as like bulk foods, hi-c products, and many things are among those no longer being carried in stores any longer. Also, I've been hearing from employess that work at a store such as Alpine that ever since Fred passed away, they are not being treated very nicely anymore and have all had pay cuts too.
  2. Any more details on how the Knapp's Corner remodel is coming along? Also, I noticed that they recently installed a Coca Cola Freestyle Machine at the Alpine location and yesterday I was over at the one by Rivertown and they had the Freestyle machine there too. Are all meijer stores going to have coca cola freestyle machines? Yesterday at the Rivertown location I had attempted to look around it and noticed that some flavors of pop were unavailable. I hope they were just out and just needed to be restocked.
  3. Meijer has announced that the Knapp's Corner store will be receiving an experimental flagship remodel. I wonder what that is all about. For anyone that shops there, care to discuss what might be going on or what you heard? Link to the article: http://paradigmae.com/2013/02/meijer-knapps-corner/ More details about the Knapp's Corner meijer remodel: http://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2013/02/details_on_meijers_3_million_r.html
  4. Was at Alpine Meijer yesterday and noticed that they seem to be making the health section smaller and they are building something new right next to the cart storage room. What could it be?
  5. Went to the Big Boy restaurant in Roger's Plaza yesterday and we found out that they will be closing down at 2PM next Sunday for good. Sad to see it go out of business.
  6. Some big news for the Alpine Meijer. The cafe is no more and in it's place will go a new subway restaurant. It would be kinda cool in a way, but then again, for those who sometimes get food from Delicious to go and Purple Cow, unless subway would allow those customers to sit in the restaurant, they wouldn't have a place to eat at anymore. What do you all think about this? In the store front where the at&t phone company used to be, a new PC solutions store is going in it's place.
  7. Anyone been over to Alpine lately? Rumor has it that they have been clearing out some stock in the retail section. I don't know if they are switching out products, moving stuff or expanding a department somewhere. I heard this like a week ago though. Look over by the e4 department by where candles and stuff are/were. and it would go all the way to almost housewares area but not that far.
  8. Well this is off topic, but I want to tell you about the worst experience I had at best buy last week. We were overthere looking at printers and usually when we are there, there's always a salesperson there wanting to help you. Well there weren't many workers and it was busy. So the sales people were working with other customers. We were there for about 45 minutes and my father asked a couple guys for assistance and they said this person will be with you shortly. Well they never helped us. So we left mad.
  9. I too would like to see roger's plaza get demolished as well. Before that is done though, some places that are still doing good business would have to relocate elsewhere. Places like Big Boy, MC Sports and I'm not sure if it's an office depot or an office max that's in there too. Also the DMV has to go somewhere too. I eventually see that old country buffet closing down in the future too. But yeah maybe a mini downtown would be nice for that area. There's a Family Fare on Burlingame as well. One of them should close down. It would just make sense.
  10. I read on WZZM's page that studio 28 is holding a news conference. It maybe true that studio 28 could soon be closing it's doors. WZZM states that they learned from a celebration cinema worker that the theater is closing. As for the meijer store. The meijer that's on 28th and Kalamazoo is not in the city of Wyoming, it is in the city of Grand Rapids. Studio 28 is in Wyoming. And some of you think that Meijer would build a store there. The only issue is there's the meijer on Clyde Park/54th. Do you think a new Meijer store would hurt business at the one on Clyde Park? That issue needs to be considered. A new meijer store could also hurt the other grocery stores in the area as well. Update: 24 hour news 8 says that Studio 28 is to close on November 24, 2008, and that there will be an official announcement tomorrow. They are saying that none of the employees will be laid off. They have the option of going to work for a celebration cinema or quitting their jobs.
  11. From looking at those pictures, it looks like the new front part of the store and the old exhisting store to the right of it don't seem to be attached together. So looking at the new store front, the new grocery section is on the left side of the store? If so, looking at the exhisting south area of the store in the first pic, does one have to walk a long ways back to the new grocery section? The doors on the new entrances look like the ones of the new plainfield store and not the slider doors that Alpine has. I thought every store that was remodeled or built would have those new slider doors.
  12. For those who have been over in Muskegon lately, has anyone been over to the Meijer store at Norton and Henry Streets? If so, I would like to know what's going on with that current store. If you also have pictures, please feel free to post them too.
  13. I don't know how well this program is going to work. A program similar to what KC is doing was attempted at Family Fare which used to be Great Day Foods on Lake Michigan Drive a few years back, but it was discontinued after 6 months. Only about 12 people took advantage of the program in that time. I think the folk here in this town want things done a specific way.
  14. Well Folks: Tonight I ventured into Meijer at Cascade. It's the first time that I've been in there since like 1996 or so. When I went in back in 96, I was only in one of the vestibles briefly for an ATM Visit, then left. But I was amazed at what I saw once I entered the store. Folks, this is not your ordinary meijer store that you've been in. I'd have to shop there several times before I knew everything at that store. I really like the graphics program that the store uses. One will still find some of the David Rockwell prototype in there such as the grocery aisle numbers, directory signs and the checkout lane numbers. However, the checkout lane numbers were blue. There are 20 grocery aisles, however Aisles 1-11 are mainly food items otherwise known as non taxable items and aisles 12-20 are taxed item stuff such as household cleaners, soaps and detergents. However, one will notice that most of the aisles are not like your ordinary meijer. Aisles 12-20 were shorter aisles. If I'm not mistaken, I'm told the main grocery concourse goes down the middle of the grocery section. On one side there would be wines, then coffees, then the juices at the back, and on the other side, there was your regular grocery aisles 1-11. Bottle return and restrooms were located in the back of the store. There were other restrooms in the grocery entrance vestible. One thing I learned about Meijer at Cascade is that it carrys some products that other meijer stores do not carry. An example is Heinz Geniune Dill Pickles. Something that Alpine used to have before it's remodel, but no longer has now. I really enjoyed a lot of the expanded sections such as pets, e4, and the Health and Beauty Care Aisles. They also had some sort of sports section which maybe sporting goods in the front of the store. It has some TV's that were on and a lot of sporty type stuff. The floors of the store were in exceptional shape. I didn't really care for the gray or some of the brownish tiles, however tiles in the wine section and other sections looked rather cool. There are 37 checkout lanes, Lanes 1-6 are express u scan lanes, 7-10 are full size u scans, 11 and 12 is the convience center formally known as the tobacco center, 13-31 as regular checkout lanes, 32-37 are also u scan express lanes. I really would wish other meijer stores would have this type of prototype, but it would be rather costly to remodel all the meijer stores to the prototype meijer at cascade has. Also, how big is Meijer at Cascade? Well there's my input on the store.
  15. What happened to CompUSA?? Did they close down or go out of business?? I didn't even know that it closed down! I didn't even know chedders closed down and was torn down as well.
  16. Maybe all the meijer stores are eventually going to have full size self checkout lanes.
  17. Well I don't know if I will be going out to the clyde park store again in the near future. I was staying at my dad's last night and he dosen't live that far from that particular meijer. He lives on the SW side in Wyoming and I live on the NW side in Grand Rapids. Last time I was out at that particular meijer before I went yesterday was like a year ago. Hopefully those that do visit the store frequently will post updates as to what's going on there.
  18. Today I took a brief trip over to the Clyde Park Meijer store to pick up pictures I wanted developed from my digital camera memory card and I noticed a cement truck laying down new cement in the area which may soon be the new bottle return room. I went into the store via the retail entrance. Because this was a quick visit to pick up pictures, I did not go down to the grocery section to see what was going on. So I don't have any updates as to what was going on in the grocery section of the store.
  19. Ladies and Gents: Tonight, I took a trip over to the meijer store on Clyde Park/54th. There is some construction going on over at that store. We will start in the front promenade of the store as some changes are taking place there. The bakery which used to be there has now moved over to the produce department area. Where the bakery used to be will soon become a bottle return room. The bottle return room is actually in a temp location of the store. It is located next to the new bakery department. If you notice outside of the store on the left side of the grocery entrance, there is wood on the building. I am assuming that it will contain an entry into the bottle return room. Next off, where the walk in medical clinic used to be is still vacant. Heading over to the produce department area: You will notice that there's a bit of construction in the area. What used to be the cafe area where tables and chairs once were at is now a cart storage room. If you go into the grocery entrance of the store, to the right of the entrance is the cart room with all the carts stored inside there. The Deli and Delicious to Go departments have traded places. Deli is now in the location where Delicious to go was and Delicious to go is now where deli used to be. To the left of delicious to go if your in the produce department is a bottle return room. That is just a temporary bottle return room. There actually used to be a bottle return room by where milk is at. Now it's mainly backrooms in there. Once the bottle return room moves to it's new location, the temporary bottle return room will contain the cafe area with tables and chairs. Currently, there is no cafe area to sit and enjoy snacks at. To the left of the new bakery is now where all the break stock is at. That may still be a work in progress area. There isn't much lighting there and the shelves only appeard to be about 80% stocked. There are sales on some breads so they may also be out of stock as well. Heading towards the frozen foods/meat and seafood section. There are taking out old coolers and installing new coolers which was really needed. There is still one cooler that has yet to be removed. There are currently 2 new frozen food coolers installed. They will be installing another frozen foods cooler or 2 yet, but it won't be where the old white cooler is currently at that will soon be removed. The other frozen food cooler will be on the other side of the new frozen food cooler that was just installed not too long ago. The coolers that were installed appeared to be fully stocked, but some of the products in the coolers may just be in temp locations. Where the old cooler that has yet to be removed will soon be home to an expanded grocery section it says. And where yet another frozen food cooler or two has yet to be installed, it said it will be home to the newly expanded frozen foods section. If your in the grocery section of the store by where the milk cooler and dairy coolers are at, past the dairy cooler, you will notice what looks like new jet black coolers there. They contain some meat and cheese products. Not sure if those are permanent or temp locations. Over in the area, there was plastic hanging up there. They are in the process of getting ready to install new meat coolers and other coolers there. The old meat coolers were removed and unless I'm mistaken, packaged meats in the coolers are unavailable. Unless anyone has noticed, I don't think there is any remodeling of any sort taking place in the retail section of the store. Then again, I don't shop at that store often. I usually shop at Alpine. Other things I noticed. The tile floors throughout the store really need to be replaced. They are in pretty bad shape in some parts of the store. Also, I think it would look better if there wasn't drop ceilings in the store. Why can't they take out the drop ceilings and have an open roof truss system like the Alpine Meijer? I did say that there was a new cart storage room to the right side of the grocery entrance, but there isn't one at the retail entrance. The reason why it maybe like that is that the retail entrance vestible is big enough to have carts stored there. Compared to Alpine Meijer, I think the grocery section at the Clyde Park Meijer is much smaller than Alpine's grocery section. Well that's all I know so far.
  20. Hey: I would like to know if they ever built a new furniture department elsewhere at the standale meijer and if it now carries foods such as science diet and stuff like that?
  21. That wouldn't be cool if there is no more furniture department in Meijer.
  22. Not sure if there is anyone here that goes over towards the muskegon area, but wanted to know if they started remodeling yet over at the meijer store on Norton avenue? In the meijer ads on the back of the retail section, it says that it's garden center isn't available. I knew that they were supposed to start remodeling this year.
  23. Sad news to all of you out there: Meijer is no longer going to have small animals such as guinea pigs, birds and other species of small animals. They will however still continue to carry fish overthere. Was at Alpine today and noticed a big sign covering those old cages and asked a guy and he said that they discontinued having those types of Animals. If you want animals like that, go on down the road to petco.
  24. Well I just read about that particular meijer store and I'm not sure how I totatally missed that, but wow. That will indeed be an extensive remodel to the store. It would maybe best to tear it all down and start over from scratch. If only I lived around the area or if someone lived around there, would like to know of all the updates that go on with that store. Is the mezzanine being taken out as well?
  25. Over the weekend I was in Muskegon. I spot a meijer store there on the way to the holiday inn hotel. I didn't go there that day, but today, I was looking for the Grand Rapids Press and I decided that I would go in there to find the paper. Of course, they don't have GR Press, but their own paper. Anyways, I'm not exactly sure what street the meijer store is on, but there's another street nearby that is Henry. That store in a way looks like the exhisting plainfield meijer store, but not built as the same exact plainfield store. It has a mezzanine floor that didn't have much on it, but it's rather huge. The muskegon store has not yet been remodeled to the latest corporate format. I am however not sure if that particular store can be remodeled to meijer's latest corporate format. But something I noticed is that the main concourses and the rear concourse are different by far. It seems as if the retail concourse going to tbe back is much longer than of any other meijer store that I've been in. The rear concourse is shorter. But as I said, the store has not been remodeled to the latest format, there's drop ceilings in the clothing and retail section of the store that are producing really dim lighting, the grocery section looked like it had 18 Aisles, but you will only see up to #15 There are 29 checkout lanes up front and I know there are checkout lanes in the back of the store, but not sure of how many. There is a rear entrance as well. Grocery section of the store is on the left while the retail is on the right. The guest services desk is to the right of the retail entrance. So tamias, if you can, could you check to see if that particular store could take a remodel to the latest corporate format and also to find out how big it is as well? I also did not see a meijer gas station on the property, but then again, it maybe somewhere. Edit: It's the store located on 700 Norton Ave in Norton Shores
