  1. You're right, but if all of the infill and development happens in the other wards -- Levine can potentially come in during the next development cycle and start with a much more valuable blank slate as there would be no parcels elsewhere for big projects..
  2. I don't know Lewis' feelings on it - but if you read anything on McColl, he describes Gateway as his vision to make Charlotte the type of place where people can work, live, shop, dine, etc all within mixed use and having street level retail. Gateway was his pet project and was built the way it is to encourage street level retail, community, etc...
  3. I'm dissapointed, I'll say that. There was the potential to put in some serious street level retail with this project and then turn some of Founder's Hall outward creating a retail corridor.
  4. How long is the Ballentyne lease for? Keep in mind this tower wont come online for four years - BofA is out of space NOW so Ballentyne could be either (a) interim or (b) they just expect that much growth.
  5. I can't find the details of the condo projects pictured here - but to mee it seems awkward to live in a mall parking lot. Does anyone share this view? What are they doing to make it lose the feel of .. well .. living in a mall?
  6. I've been in the PJs at Atlantic Station in ATL - this is a coffee shop by day and a loungey-club by night. Interesting concept, but should work at this spot. I have a slimmer of hope that BofA will face the Founders Hall shops outward, put some retail into the Ritz, and then College b/w 5th and 3rd including the EpiCentre will be our retail blocks. Could get interesting....
  7. I'm going to play the pessimist here, and wonder how that's possible. Charlotte's nightlife - while growing - just isn't that big. Witness the scene with the clubs around town in the last 2.5 years. Time Lounge was primo-club, then Twist opened. Time is now barren most nights. Twist was the hotspot, and Menage opened. Twist has closed it's doors. Menage was the hotspot and Forum opened. Menage is now a BBQ restaurant. I'm not saying a new bar/club would fail or force out an older bar (witness CANS) - but how can you expect there to be two distinct and seperate areas that both are successful? One will cannabalize the other.
  8. There's a Polo outlet in Concord though...
  9. Asked Matt about it today - asked me to post that he's been delayed due to some Architecture / Permit issues, but expects to be up and running by the end of the year.
  10. He's been delayed a bit, but I think last I asked another month or two... Matt's a good guy, seems like he's been working real hard on this.

    The Vue

I think that's more likely the case, smellycat
  12. Not really - Asian denotes a culture and region, White does not. It would be more similar to saying Arab and Iraq or Saudi Arabia. While there are exceptions (Phillipines for instance), there is a general similarity to East Asian cultures across the countries, the same way there are commonalities with Western European countries, or even between US and Canada.
  13. Just copy/paste the URL - http://www.angelfire.com/bug2/cinco/building/waxhaw2.jpg Cinco - I think angelfire doesn't let another web server to the get.
  14. You're forgetting about corporate sponsors, the people who own/run NASCAR, and the drivers themselves.
  15. Also stumbled upon this the other day - http://www.midatlanticmusic.com/home.htm Although I'm not sure what to think of it.
  16. Clay Aiken - from Raleigh, but went to UNCC. Also, Ben Folds is from Winston-Salem (lyric in the song Brick is "Her mom and dad went down to Charlotte")
  17. Correct me if I'm wrong - but it looks more like two-lanes converging into 1 and 1 lane opening up to 5. That's a bit less drastic than 7 lanes going down to 2.
  18. I walked by this building yesterday - besides the cameraman focusing on it - there was a "For Sale by State of North Carolina" sign up. Perhaps they just haven't taken it down?
