  1. good for her. that would teach them to try and pull a stunt like they did. the michigan democrats knew that there weren't going to be any canidates and went ahead and held thier primary anyway. now they want to do it over again. doesn't make any sense but I would be highly disappointed if it cost the tax payers any money. this state is hurting enough as it is.
  2. I think that the additional cost to fly out of small airports is a small price to pay for the convienience especially if one is much closer. When I fly out of flint I can be from my living room to my gate in 30 minutes at any time of the day. I may have to fly on a smaller plane but that doesn't really bother me as they are much faster to board and unload and if my carry on is too large I can check it at the gate and pick it up at the gate rather than go through baggage claim. The amount that you save in time, gas, and parking more than makes up for the increased cost. the only downside is that without many direct flights the trip almost always takes longer. how much longer depends on your layover.
  3. That shot reminds me of when I first moved to GR in 1989. I always thought that the city had a wierd skyline because it was so low with just the amway grand sticking out above it. That shot was from the early 90's maybe '92 because the tower was finished before my senior year of high school which was 93-94.
  4. flint has lots of desinations but that is only because it has lots of flights to to detroit, atlanta, or chicago depending on what major airline you are flying. I fly quite a bit to various destinations and have yet to reach anywhere directly though flint except for the above cities. Of course I haven't gone anywhere on vacation like florida or las vegas where air tran offers direct flights.
  5. Isn't there a michigan law that keeps property tax increases at a certain percentage per year, around the rate of inflation to protect people against them becoming too great and forcing people out of thier homes? Also being if being displaced is a concern it must not be too much of a concern if they are willing to leave with a large offer on thier home. This is the whole anti gentrification argument and the only people that would really be adversely affected by that are renters which aren't good for a neighboorhood in large numbers anyway.
  6. you can say what you want about Bush. history will tell if he did a good job or not based on if his goals were accomplished. it is far too early to tell. what you can say about him though with regards to this is that he is maintaining the status quo. If bush even had anything to do with this he would just be maintianing a long tradition of presidntial cover ups. I doubt the next guy will be any better only different.
  7. Another good parking option that may solve part of this problem is to implement something like downtown birmingham where your first two hours are free in the city parking lots/ramps. this is good all the time without the need for coupons.
  8. Europeans love public transportation, this should be a slam dunk. I believe you intended to say white, non-hispanic, non-middle eastern Americans, which of course means that this is far from over.
  9. this may not be that far fetched an idea. even though there wouldn't be many stops there is a precedent with Chicago's "El". the yellow route runs out to skokie from evanston. there are no stops and it is quite a distance although I can't tell you exactly what it is. If the ridership supports it then it makes sense to do it. you don't need to have any stops and then it wouldn't contribute at all to suburban sprawl. and if no stations were needed it would dramatically drop the cost.
  10. Rice has only about 2500 undergrads. Also the requirements for DI have to do with attendance, stadium capacity and other factors
  11. only in detroit would you see this. although it does combine two of my favorite foods. at least the preacher that runs this chuch is acknowlaging that he is in it for the profit by incorporating his "church" I hope I didn't offend anyone that may actually go to this church.
