  1. Perfect place for OMA. Hopefully they keep their Loch Haven building going as well.
  2. I think that has more to do with the lighting and poor white balancing characteristics of my BlackBerry (don't judge).
  3. This morning I went in and took these shots of the miniature model by the Pugh.

The open platforms must contribute to the inefficiencies. I'm guessing the charge for the ticket is to keep the homeless from riding around all day.
  5. For those in Orlando who are not tied exclusively to either organization, it's all win, win, win. When tourists are debating which park to go to in Orlando versus which city should we go to, that's a conversation I would love to hear over and over...
  6. I am biased. I moved into the St. Pete area in high school when Tatu was tearing it up with the Rowdies as an elder up but incredibly talented Brazilan futebol star. I also marched in my HS band at AL Lang. I also am bored to tears with a baseball game and can only garner any interest in the sport through highlight shows. With Beckham's Miami dream still supported by the MLS but not so much it seems inside Miami, I would love to see this. The plans for the AL Lang stadium are no where near what the Rays wanted totally changing the shoreline and roadways there. 18000 seats. Modest, doable and walkable from nice entertainments. Rays? Eh, kick their grass.
  7. A station by the port might be good in the short term. Sure the port authority, Kennedy space center would like that. The beach train.
  8. On my soc feed, too good to not share here:
  9. The shell goes up comparatively quickly. But just in a standard theater all the show infrastructure (sound, lighting, fly system) means pulling over a million miles of cable. Then certification and testing of all systems and sub systems takes a long time and while from many respects in what one would think is a building ready to open. That's why the call to bulldoze or repurpose the shell of the Carr seems such a waste. Especially as purpose built theaters take so much time and money. With the Steinmetz you are also looking at more systems on top of what was done at the Disney with the adjustable acoustics, the upstage concert wall on rails and the flexible seating area levels. Far more complex than "just" a theater like the Disney, miles away from even a high tech church.
  10. Perhaps a courtyard like what Ember did. Not only the CftH behind them, but across the street from the Islamic Center. But an almost permanent Police presence there will change the feel of that corner I'm sure. Could only find this small pic of the rendering.
  11. Heard a few interesting rumors about changes at the Executive Airport. What is NOT rumor is they are building two more hangars (#15 & #16) on the Crystal Lake side between Robinson and Livingston. Now this is where I was unable to independently verify anything else: OFD Station 6 is supposedly relocating to the other side of the airfield off of Rickenbacker I believe. (Where has to do with the location of "the OPD SWAT hangar" on the airport grounds, which I think to be the hangar by the old 4th Fighter Group Restaurant site). The reasoning for the move is three fold: They are packed tight at the old fire station especially as they recently acquired a new heavy (3 axle) Crash Truck to replace the smaller, older, leaky truck. Response times to Baldwin Park (which 6 is primary service for) will be much improved. OPD is vacating the facility to consolidate so much cheaper to make a few changes than build new. Rumors continue that the old station will be demo'd and a WaWa built on the site. And finally the airport is ready to also finally build the 4 storey hotel with a restaurant on top. This info came from someone who is familiar with operations at FS 6. Anyone else able to comment?
  12. Currently the mass transit options are being run primarily by Mears branded Disney. We are a destination, not for business travelers alone but families with heavy luggage needs. Our convention business is so reliant on bringing the spouse and kids after all. And that portage requirement is best served through point to point coach rather than rail where the last mile is a huge nuisance. I am though a pure amateur in these matters but as everyone else seems to know my job as well I don't feel guilty in asserting Orlando is a special and in some ways unique destination. Any comparisons to other cities have to look at not the total number of people in MCO but segments. We are not a hub so the huge numbers of an ATL where you grab a meal and a libation are far different from us where people save money to bring into our economy. As such, how big of a segment do you see any other public transport (not the same as mass transport I would assert) being? Perhaps not quite as paltry year long as Madison Wisconsin but close I think. Thank you for your indulgence.
  13. The big news was the armory was designated a historic landmark. The side note was that the Carr was also so designated. So they can gut it and make it into office space if they want and don't understand how expensive the technical bones of the building is, but it will be harder to knock it down for a parking garage. Hopefully our city fathers and mothers will think we aren't that much of a hick town that we can't support more than one 2000+ seat theater. But of course they could build a garage and place a plaque on the wall like at Tinker Field I suppose. Interesting read on the history of the municipal auditorium from the proposal: http://www.cityoforlando.net/city-planning/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/07/HPB2016-00148-Bob-Carr-Landmark.pdf
  14. I'm rather partial to MSP Linbergh for layovers. Meanwhile new roadway from the terminals to the south exit open and things growing out of the ground at MCO:
  15. I thought they were in storage someplace looking for an artistic installation someplace. Heck, could install them right back on the site. After all, every public space can be made a little more classy with a henge.
  16. Was there the other day, going to be a very pretty streetscape. They even have a functioning traffic light at Livingston and Terry. Quirky seeing it cycle to two closed off roads.
  17. I guess we don't have an Ultimate I-4 thread, but going with the discussion on other threads and regarding the height of the bridge district et. al and that the project will be on going for a good while, perhaps we should have one. And has nothing to do with me being a flyover fan boi. But yesterday I noticed them cutting support I beams that had been driven into the ground by South Street at a level that is short of the new eastbound section. This morning I saw they had also cut the tops of the cladding squares (? not sure of the proper name of the concrete pieces that wall in the earthen ramps) so that what ever is going on that looks like the same height as the current westbound. The Ultimate I-4 website just has the same cgi renderings it has had for awhile. Any new plans out there to get a better feel of what will be both in the interim and final?
  18. Doesn't look like I-4 is going to be any higher than the height of the re-built eastbound lanes. At South Street I can see a dramatic rise, and Church will also be a touch higher. Unless they are going to rip all that up as well as the supports currently sitting on steel, which would that be a temporary nature?
  19. Shot from one major sports venue looking at the two other major sports venues in town. I don't think Orlando City's stadium is going to be very visible.
  20. Perhaps it's my German heritage, but I grew up with foodhalls. A market I think of as shopping.
  21. You'd have to demolish the raked seating as the ground entranceways now enter under the seats. Perhaps redoing the 1970s' enclosure with less obstructions would be good. Removing the curtains was a nice step except the heat of the day has overburdened the already underpowered and old HVAC system.
  22. As someone who worked frequently around the OBT and Taft Vineland road area, and still go there maybe once a quarter, I can tell you traffic is outrageous there. Plenty of lanes wherever Lexus are driven, but mile back ups of trucks. The productivity loss is huge and while there is more land for more companies there, I don't know anyone who really wants to do anything there until the traffic is sorted.
  23. Thanks for the schoolin' jrs2. I am guilty of repeating what I've heard rather than any real research into things. I've lived in both places moving up I-4 as work pulled me out of St. Pete after HS arriving in Orlando in 1987 though started commuting to EPCOT in 1986.
