  1. Delta used to fly non-stop from Orlando to Paris-Orly, Frankfurt, and Mexico City [they never served LGW to my memory] and they were about to open a large Central and South American hub here [they announced something like 10 cities to start].

Frankfurt was the last of those routes to die because Delta managed to make some money with contracts from Martin-Marietta to shuttle a lot of their people back-and-forth.

Delta inherited their MCO-Europe routes with their acquisition of Pan Am but they were unable to make them profitable because they had no intra-European network to feed the international flights as did Pan Am before them.

Delta killed the CA/SA hub plans when new management took over and refocused DL

  2. if they are worried now about funding, why not scale back and take the citrus bowl renovation off the list. it seems completely pointless to me anyway. the other too are no brainers, but why renovate the citrus bowl?? as someone mentioned earlier, it is used 2 days out of the year now, minus small community events. plus i always get annoyed when the lump it in with downtown. its about as downtown as pine hills is!

  3. From Orlando Sentinel

    Another link in the chain

Yet another casual-dining chain is on its way. Southern California-based BJ's Restaurant & Brewery, which serves up Chicago-style pizza and brews, has posted a sign across the road from the Mall at Millenia announcing its impending arrival. The restaurant has been posting help-wanted ads on the craigslist Web site.

my sister LOVES this place. coincidentally she also grew up in orlando with me and now lives out here in LA as well. i'm more of a NY style pizza guy, but didn't hate it. their deserts are pretty fantastic. their beer didn't necessarily stand out, but it wasn't piss water either. overall, i'd recommend it. especially if you're tired of Uno's. :good:

  4. Fair assesment. I understand that as a multipurpose facility, it gives up specialization in any one domain. For most purposes, however, I'd still maintain its 'sucking' status. This is coming from the perspective of a musican and an audience member, where my biggest concerns are accoustics and sightlines.

I'm with you on keeping it though. No matter how many flaws there are or aren't with the space, there's no use in razing it if there's still a use for it. I say play it by ear, see how relevent the venue is if/when the PAC is complete. If there's demand for it, great. If Dyer's 'creative village' takes off and some uber-development wants to incorporate it, great. I think a parking lot is probably last thing on most people's minds.

perhaps even a redesign down the road to make better acoustics, sightlines and mechanics. big "perhaps", but we can always remain hopeful. i kinda have sentimental ties to the place. it was the first place i had ever heard a live symphony when i was like 8 years old. that was back in the days of the orange, yellow and fuscia interior looking like some lost set of a buck rogers episode.

  5. At the danger of going off topic of the off topic topic. Who picks our state suffixes? When I lived in Michigan, what was popular was the 'Michigander', five or so years later I heard of Michiginian. Floridian could have been Floridaster, Floridaman in the pre-women's lib days, or even Floridese.

And what then should a person from Orlando call themselves? Orlandoid? :silly:

    michiginagain?

  6. OFF TOPIC!!! OFF TOPIC!!!! OFF TOPIC!!!!!

I am now the official self appointed new "Forum Nazi". -_-

my apologies for my part, jfw.

now back to rosie, barbara, joye and "the right wing chick" on "the VUE"

  7. Ending up at 500 or less at the end of the season would make me want to puke. ;)

Whipp, your probably right. Maybe one day USC will give up their varsity high school schedule and play some real teams. Same with OSU and Michigan!

oh ok, thats good to know. i'll be sure and tell them to go ahead and schedule western carolina.

and btw, i ain't a USC fan, just so ya know :shades:
