Have we heard about The Lofts at Printers Square?
"11 luxury lofts in a prime location in the heart of the Vista on the corner of Lady and Pulaski. Without a question, the best location in the Vista.
Concrete & steel construction with a tumbled brick exterior. The extra-large terraces provide a breathtaking view of the city skyline. Green Building environmental and energy features. Exposed brick interior walls. 12' - 13' ceilings. Covered parking."
That sounds nice, but I don't understand people's attraction to exposed brick interior walls.

I heard the Wild Wings downtown has decided not to open because of kitchen problems (source: office chatter). Can anyone confirm this?
I don't that is true, but I'll have to do my research before confirming.

I wonder how much of the skyline can be seen from any one of those homes pictured. Looks like an ideal area for me to live.

I didn't know a Krispy Kreme was on Main.
Why in the world did they move it to Cayce?

I think the last figures I saw for 2000 were something like 60% urban/40% rural--that's as far as population goes.
Thanks Krazee. If anyone can find the figures land or area wise that would be great also.

Just a question that popped up in my head:
Does anyone know what percentage of SC is rural vs. the percentage that is classified as urban?

I love lifestyle centers as well, but the enclosed mall isn't dead yet. There are so many out there that it's time to redevelop the ones already in existance. CBL, General Growth, Simon and Westfield have been very good and in many times successful at changing the image of malls. The Villlage Of Sandhill will have many stores to feature, but I'll continue to write for Columbia Place. There are still many good years to come out there.
Very true. Lifesytle centers are great but I think they're nothing more than souped up plaza's.

It IS a go...I don't know what they're talking about. Someone said that we missed our chance at having things that draw people to the river. NO idea what that means. CanalSide IS supposed to have coffee shops, restaurants, small shops, etc right on the river. On their website, there is a section for people that are interested in "commercial/retail" opportunities. And it's NOT just condos, as someone else asked. There will also be single family houses, townhouses, etc.
Here is the site. www.canalsidecolumbia.com
Thanks Bry, I'm relieved.

^I heard about that last year from some co-workers. However, I'm not at all suprised as its not that far away.

Although I do fly to Manhattan to shop on occasion, I've yet to shop at NM there...
Wow! Flying to Manhattan just to shop? Some of the posters on UP seem way above my level

Atlanta may need more foot traffic on its streets, but not to the level of NYC. I wouldn't want hundreds of thousands of people stepping on the back of my heels when I'm trying to take my own time getting where I'm going.
Also, I've haven't been to DC yet, but I really need to go in order to see the street activity that so many people speak of. DC is never really shown beyond the capitol on television.

I don't know that the space is big enough but I'd like to see a Friday's go in there. We don't have one on this side of town.
That's exactly what they need to put there.

Have anybody heard the rumor that a cheesecake factory is coming to sandhills?
Haven't heard that, but it would be nice to have one somewhere in Columbia.
Downtown would be my pick though.

I'm sure some will be occupied year-round, but most will only be occupied on football weekends.
If I paid that much for a condo, I would be more than sure to occupy it 100% of the time.

Nice, the BOA building does in fact look better up close IMO. You must have a really nice camera IC
-
You really did seem serious, Matt. Shame on you!
Yeah you did and I just told more than 2 people about it. I'm embarrassed
But I'll be okay

Express & Brooks Brothers are two totally different stores IMO.....Columbiana has no room for new stores anyways
They need to make room. Especially room for a second story expansion.

But I don't want to see EVERYTHING downtown with a brick facade. I mean, I know it's classic, but come on.
I agree

I am a big fan of regional architectural styles. I don't like seeng the same crap everywhere. That is boring. Thats why I don't like suburbia. Our historic architecture should be accented in our current bulidings so that we can maintain a distinct architectural style.
Good point. Columbia seems to be infatuated with brick (and red or dark red brick in particular), so why not build something to compliment that.

Too bad the movie theatre idea got scrapped.
Me too! A movie theater in DT would bring a lot of people back DT. We really needed that.

Oh! one more thing. Atlanta has a looooooooooooot of trees (which I think is a good thing)!

Looking from the Southwest over Tech into midtwon in 1968:
Atlanta did a lot in 38 years. I didn't know that the red and white communications tower was 38 years (or more) old!!

Thanks IC and HybridONE for the replies. My ego is satisfied
