  1. Site work for Bloc90 has begun. Urban Stash will be coming down in a week or two. Another project, 15th Street Condos is underway. It is located next to the basketball court at the end of 15th Street and Myers. This project is directly on the greenway. Both are worth coming down and walking around, although 15th Street is now fenced off. Things are changing quickly...
  2. Does anyone have information about the Louise Mill (at Hawthorne). It appears there are a few artisans that run their businesses from there. Any news of converting/rehab for that mill?
  3. what about the rezoning across the street? i think it is 21-07, a 6-acre mixed use rezoing ?
  4. The "rain garden" is a romantic term for the required storm management system (detention pond) that the government has for low-lying areas with a great deal of surface parking. Perkins + Will is a edgy design firm, so the project should "look good". There must be more planned in the area besides this one project if they intend on selling units for anywhere close to $200K. Apparently, Clay Hunter with Hunter Tire & Wrecker thinks their business if an asset to the community. He says they give thousands of dollars to local non-profits for community events. Can anyone attest to this? Apparently, the writing on the wall has inspired him to communicate...
  5. Does anyone have information regarding the cleared site on 15th Street across from where the "homies" hang out? It is directly on the greenway, and there does not appear to be any indication if this project is civic/public or private. Anyone know?
  6. How do you "switch" the name of a neighborhood? Anyways, the bloc90 project is online at www.bloc90.com
  7. What's with the link only working for a limited time??? Just tried to access it and it is no longer available. Does someone happen to have it downloaded? Crosland is working on the train horns. There is a federal "Quiet Zone" program that the city has yet to enforce, and with the support of residents, things may change. Keep asking... it is outrageous that a train moving at 5 mph must sound the horn 50 times in a 0.5 mile stretch. Bloc90 rendering??? The project will not be unveiled on St. Patty's, but hopefully soon enough. Rendering???
  8. The project that will replace Urban Stash is named "Bloc90". Tuscan says they will officially announced the project on St. Patrick's Day at the Little Hornet's Nest (the green convenience store @ North Davidson Street and 15th).
  9. Rip announded the new condos in Optimist Park last week in the University; the link is: http://tryonstreetjournal.wordpress.com/20...st-park-condos/ Wasn't there, so not sure if the rendering is the same as shown 4 months ago.
  10. Sledding on Cordelia Park's "mountain" during this year's "blizzard" is evidence that things exist in nature that we may rarely see on a day-to-day basis. Living in Optimist Park provides this opportunity to experience more than the typical "urban" condition.
  11. Here is the link to 94 Brevard that includes the elevations. http://ww.charmeck.org/Planning/Rezoning/2...site%20plan.pdf
  12. The "SodaLofts", renamed "Block 90" is slated to be announced at the beginning of the year. The approved zoning site plan is @ http://ww.charmeck.org/Planning/Rezoning/2...site%20plan.pdf
  13. There is an article in the Observer today about the third runway at Charlotte-Douglas. Also, there is a small article on 2D about CSX Intermodal facility. It seems they wanted to move the facility on N. Tryon to Chester County and York County, but the residents protested. Last I heard they wanted to move it to the airport, any news on that? This may be the best time for them to move, since they may be entitled to funds from the airport. There were a lot of new faces at the meeting, and we are in the process of getting the bylaws edited, so that they can be approved and we can move orward towards 501©(3) status. We need officers (VP, Secretary, and Treasurer) to fill the openings. Once those couple administrative positions get filled, we will have a voice to bring to the city, neighbors, and the county.
  14. We have met with Major Graham, who is over the East division? He is aware of the situation, and has many creative solutions to remedy our issues. He wants us to get up and running (get 501c3 status), so we can get started working with them. They are quite busy through the holidays, and will not attend the next meeting (which will basically be administrative). This does not mean they won't be patrolling the area. This is everyone's chance to get on the board, and we seek to nominate anyone that is willing to serve. Anyone with the skills and heart to be on the board will be eligible. A question to all: should the "existing" board remain, or should all positions be open? Right now, we have Henry Heath as president, and are not sure if the vice president will remain. Rip Farris is stepping down as treaasurer, and there is no secretary. Another question: should only residents be eligible to be on the board, or should any organization in the neighborhood have a representative that is eligible? These are quite technical issues, but define how we structure our leadership... Is that 14/15 from Eastway, or North Tryon? Optimist Park will be under the Eastway division come Jan.13, this is why I ask. Thanks for the input 28202!
  15. Sorry for the delay in notice, but the Optimist Park Neighborhood Association meeting is December 16th @ 5pm (this Saturday) at 425 E. 17th Street (it is the red door on Caldwell and 17th). This is a new date, and all measures are being taken to inform everyone of this change. This is part of working with older folks who do not realize the importance of consistency. Please be there- this meeting will include nominating people for the board of directors. This will be your chance to nominate yourself or someone else. The positions/ responsibilities will be described first, so that you are informed as to what the position entails. See you there. If you are unable to attend please let a friend/neighbor know so that your voice may be heard. Following this meeting, all future meetings will be held at the Belmont Library @ Parkwood and NoDa. More info. @ the meeting.
  16. Any ideas on how to put the pressure on Hunter to clean up or get out? Picketing, signs in yards, etc.
  17. Alpha Mills is opening in phases as construction is completed. The new units on 12th are complete and occupied. The Optimist Park neighborhood meeting has been rescheduled for the 16th of Dec. (Sat.) at 5:30. It will be held at the 17th street Episcopal Church (the one with the red door). It is open to anyone that would like to participate.
  18. That is prime real estate, yet I agree. Did they demo the mill houses or move them?
  19. http://www.crosland.com/apartments/under_d...ent_affordable/ This is a color rendering of the 940 Brevard senior housing project. Scroll to the bottom to see image.
  20. For all interested in becoming part of the Historic Optimist Park Neighborhood Association: Please send a quick note to [email protected] to get on our e-mailing list. We have yet to be "re-associated" so this is a great time to get involved and meet people. The next official meeting will be Dec. 15 at 425 E. 17th Street starting at 6:30pm.
  21. Hunter offered to leave for $40 million. Good luck to them getting that much of a pay-off. The city and county need to make a land-swap deal and also provide a cash stipend, but $40 million is rediculous at this point. We have called water management and they have tested the water quality, but say that there is nothing unusual, or in violation. Someone must be getting paid off...
  22. That is the most articulate way of explaining the effects of Hunter. Thanks for that clear explanation. One of the problems is that Hunter and the Sherriff's department have contracts with eachother. Hunter does not make any initiative to be part of this community, or the community at large. I would love to see all these people (Hunter, etc.) come live here for a month and see what it is like. That may change their minds.
  23. Opt-12 is sold out! Good news for the new development coming to this block. The unit under question "with the best view" is owned by the developer. Also, the church would like to see the old, green, hornet's nest grocer that they now own turned into a community center. That may be a better serving use than the 40 ounces to freedom provider. We need Hunter Auto & Wrecker to sell out!
