  1. Makes one wonder how Tremont and the Arlington ever got built at all.
  2. ^ Gold mine of stills from those, wow, can certainly claim we're not messin' around no mo'.
  3. ^ Love to see this thing actually get built out one day [soon].
  4. Actually agree a hotel there would work, random yes, but NoDa center feels like a distinct town anyway, being off the beaten path would have a particular appeal, in this case. That said, another in your list @kermit isn't synonymous with this - Proximity in GSO, lizard and a giraffe.
  5. Hahaha, yes, that. @KJHburg, I was hoping not to ask, but... I was assuming the Actors parking lots because there is nothing obstructing the view in the pic, but don't know for sure.
  6. ^ My bad, thought you meant it should be razed.
  7. A little nostalgia, this is lifted from earlier in this thread, circa Dec. 18, 2007, almost 10 years ago. Vantage appears to be the Actors Theater parking lot. Very different today.
  8. ^ Apologies if missing some context or previous discussion, but that to me looks like a cool building for adaptive re-use.
  9. Don't think I've met a Marlins fan myself, and for that matter when I lived in Houston, Astros games might as well have had tumbleweeds blowing through the stadium, it's not possible to exaggerate how empty the stadium was (pre-move downtown). If we're to fight for MLB better locate it very near uptown and bar any adjacent parking lots, to encourage an entertainment/residential district to compliment the stadium.
  10. Ahh... thank you, but a simple "nearest-neighbor tessellation routine" huh? I'll google that as well, though just realized it's a nearest drive time calculation, not an allegiance map.
  11. Which Maptitude product/mapping did you use to create this? Checked the long list and didn't see anything for "Sports", "Major", "MLB", etc.
  12. Yep, I made a batch about 8 years ago, haven't since, far too many good local brews to make one lazy.
  13. That's crazy, Manufacturing is the good news I suppose, had no idea it was that robust after textiles were decimated, and to an extent the furniture and tobacco industries as well.
  14. We are however the 10th largest state so this ranking does not appear to be a good sign, beyond the fact tech growth is increasing. Perhaps the % we are rural is the difference, but for some Tech sectors this would not be relevant.
  15. This was a little surprising, Charlotte metro one of the those to have increased metro density as opposed to becoming more "suburban", though I can see "holes" in the statistics: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/22/upshot/seattle-climbs-but-austin-sprawls-the-myth-of-the-return-to-cities.html
  16. Don't forget adding an asston of traffic to a dead end access road already servicing a Walmart... wow.
  17. ^ The expectation that services be within that radius (5-10 minutes) or a place isn't "walkable".
  18. Just an opinion and worth as much, but I don't really agree with this, reads like the application of the same sedentary/lazy argument that we are rejecting elsewhere in decrying the current state of the country (or elements/regions within it). Expecting some or most "services" to be 5-10 minutes away seems like the same suburban mentality that is a problem. If groceries/shopping, its understandable, carrying things farther than this is inconvenient but shopping used to be for minor daily perishables and not a "trip", and something people dealt with, even in older more "walkable" cities. Not really familiar with the criteria WalkScore uses but I don't agree with Charlotte's low ranking based on personal experience of it and more than a few other places it also rates. I would argue it comes down to infrastructure as you've noted, and safety.
  19. ^ It's not just archaic, it is a state sponsored monopoly, unnecessary regulation/bureaucracy and anti-freemarket, which is supposed to stand in stark contrast to the supposed ideals of most of those who are backing this, or benefit from them. The irony I'll assume is obvious. Would love to donate a little to their efforts to fight this but didn't see a place to do that, however petition and other links can be found here: http://craftfreedom.org/
  20. The 3rd time (in a row) really gets it to that crazy addictive place:
  21. ^ Thats no where near the area bounded by Benjamin Pkwy, Cornwallis and Battleground, different projects here?
  22. Nice touch naming the IPA "CLT"... and making it over 7%.
  23. More than width than I thought, though think that would have to be shrunk a bit on both left and right sides for non-abutment to parking structure, and increased setback form road for outdoor/crowd space, but yes, that. Two story structure, with open on the terrace roof.
  24. Nice shot, so that winding greenspace/sidewalk is obviously not happening, or are they eliminating half of 3rd along this block?
