  1. Or could it just be that they don't want WalMart/Target/Coscto, etc buying the land right from under them, so to speak? How sad it would be to see a Super WalMart right next to Meijer Corporate HQ!
  2. The bottle is even better - pictures of dancing pink elephants and crocodiles. The tap handle is even a pink elephant! In Canada, the beer comes in paper-wrapped bottles because the gov't finds the name offensive. (Actually, used to be sold in the states under a different name, which presently escapes me. . .) http://www.delirium.be
  3. You guys are killing me with this beer talk. What kind of selection are we talking 'bout here? Somehow I doubt it bests Logan's (20 taps, 120 bottles). FWIW, Graydon's Crossing has Delirium Tremens on tap about 10 days ago. <Totally off topic, but another locked thread worries me: do I need to have a "certain number" of posts before I can start a topic in the coffee house? Seems to be lots of craft beer nuts here....I'd love to see where eveyone's hangout is...>
  4. Coming directly from someone who works in the Butterworth ED. . . Here, the majority of the PICU patients are transfers from referral facilities (Gerber, Holland, K'zoo, Muskegon, etc). So they're arriving via the roof, not the ED. ED proximity to PICU isn't a big deal. Trauma patients will go straight to the OR, then PICU. That takes care of the majority of PICU admits via ED. Since the new hospital will have its own ED, it will be a straight shot up the elevator to the unit. Staff elevators have a priority service feature that allows the elevator to travel directly to the destination floor, skipping all other stops. This is what we use to get adult patients up to the ICUs on the 4th and 5th floors of Meijer Heart (currently, no priority service in the children's hospital). What IS poor design is the current model, with ED, OR, and PICU all in 3 separate buildings/towers of the hospital.
  5. The only parking in this area will be for the peds ED. Parking for visitors for inpatients will be underground across the street, under the forthcoming towers buildings.
  6. I think you're right. I used to live in Ramblehood and it was a PITA to drive out to 28th St for my buffalo wing fix. I'd have loved to have a B-Dub's in my backyard. About 2 years too late for me, I'm afraid. /4 miles to the nearest BWW now, woohoo!
  7. They showed this video during the fundraising drive a few months ago. I doubt very much that is what the real-deal-Holyfield will look like. The little birdie in my ear says the final plans still haven't even been agreed upon. Here's keeping my fingers crossed for something more interesting. Also, the hospital will be the tallest object in GR when finished (good eyeball job, GRDad).
  8. Drat. I looked back, just not far enough. I suck.
  9. Surprisingly, looks like the Beer Nerd group scooped the UP-ers (yoopers?) on this one. There's supposedly a sign up stating that an Old Chicago is coming to GR, the Beltline @ 28th St.
  10. Good question on the timing! They will have to tear down the outpatient/physician parking ramp to build the new DVCH. However, as of 7/10 the South parking ramp (Barclay @ Lyon) is closed for rennovation until mid-September. That means all staff who normally park there are temporarily relocated to the main (North Visitor) parking ramp. I just don't know where they would put all those people if they started to tear down the outpatient ramp simultaneously. As an aside, the parking for the new DVCH will be underground (on the "D" level) for emergency patients only. Otherwise, parking will be across the street under the new Cancer center and/or Towers buildings.
  11. Whoops, forgot the fundage info. Spectrum is contributing appx. $90 million to the project with another $100 million requested in donations. The most recent figures (from April) show over $81 million in donations! Oh, and thanks torgo.
  12. Longtime lurker, first time posting. . . Some updates on the hospital for ya: Plans have changed! The stained glass spire is out - Spectrum Health is looking for something a little more "funky." The new design should debut this fall (no clue as to what they're planning to change). Building has increased to 14 stories(!), with about 3 or 4 floors left vacant for future expansion. Current goal is an opening in fall 2010. The front (main) entrance to Butterworth will be remodeled this year, with the plans by the same architects doing the new DVCH. Plan is to develop a facade that ties together the Heart Center, Butterworth, and the new DVCH. The circle drive will be closed for this remodel....and you thought traffic on Michigan was already bad!
