  1. The director commented in the article that the hospital was designed to accomodate future expansions, so perhaps theyll add floors to the left side that extends South or perhaps add floors to the womens pavilion... who knows.
  2. An article in the herald quotes the director of EGRMC saying the hospital will probably expand within five years, almost doubling its capacity to 250 beds.
  3. GSU Alumni & Welcome Center begins construction on Akins Blvd The Bishop Family Welcome & Alumni Center will be nearly 12,000 sf located across from the newly rennovated $44-million RAC. It is expected to be completed in May 2009.
  4. What on earth? I knew Wrapsody had closed, but Midtown Coffee? Thats crazy. Wrapsody was my fav restuarant in Statesboro in its time. I didnt care for Midtown, but I dont like to see any business close. I noticed Southern Buffet changed their sign from "under renovation" to "now leasing" as well. What kind of bookstore is it in WG now? I dont know why we need another bookstore on that street, and then with BAM coming in the Fall. At least its not empty!
  5. Here is a cool pdf link on the Ambling Group's website detailing the Centennial Place project: http://www.amblingunivdevgroup.com/Georgia...hern%20U_on.pdf
  6. Tuesday, Jan. 29 -Keynote Speaker Lisa Ling: Opening Minds and Hearts to the Issues Surrounding Us at the Performing Arts Center starting at 7 p.m.
  7. So, at City Council on Tuesday, the water and sewer people were there talking about things that they have completed and are currently working on. They said that the Lanier Drive piece was going to be a massive commercial development with some residential components (talking about the 228 acre piece). They also talked about the commercial development for the Fair Road tract, and another commercial project for Lanier Drive close to Bird Lane, and commercial properties being developed on Hwy 301 North I think in front of the Northbridge subdivision. They also commented that there are currently two industries in negotiations with Gateway Industrial park. One thing that really surprised me is that they talked about a "Southeast residential corridor" they are working on off of Cawana Road consisting of 2,220 R-15 to R-20 lots. Not sure how the Bradford Place folks will react to that.
  8. Took the words right out of my mouth. And Im talking about Pre-2005.
  9. Well, Georgia Southern has a rich history of achieving unrealistic dreams. As for comparing top national schools, you may be trying to make a point and all (which I understand), but inferring additional information that I did not write in the previous posts is never a good idea. Just because I said that Georgia Southern is a top 262 school doesnt mean I think its equivalent to Princeton or Berkeley. I originally stated that those two schools topped the list to illustrate the types of schools which are classified on the list. Half of the schools on the list also probably yield little name recognition but simply because they are on a list topped by Princeton and Berkeley, the list says a lot more about the schools than a state list topped by Georgia Tech and UGA could. I understood you the first time about name recognition since I cannot recall where Colorado State is located off the top of my head, but thats a little different from me not being able to recall where Georgia State is, since it is in the state that I live in. That was my original point when you said that you didnt know where Georgia Southern was located until a few years ago, as if it wasnt important enough to know where its located. All Im asking, is for you to try not to be so negative on the Georgia Southern forum. If you think its an unreasonable feat, then recommend a solution. When only considering the short history of Georgia Southern's football program, I would have to say that GSU has a knack for achieving the unachievable. When reading forums and considering how to respond, it is a good idea to consider words for their face value, and not trying to respond to additional ideas that were not even mentioned or insinuating that the previous forumer supported those ideas.
  10. Midtown, in case you didnt notice, I was mainly going off on your "directional school" comment (in the Georgia Southern topic) that was particularly offensive and unrealistic representation of a top national school. It doesnt matter how they rank Georgia Southern in the top 262 schools in the country. It matters that we are in it and while 262 sounds like a lot, it really isnt compared to the number of schools in this country. I also showed the comparisons to the other schools in the Sunbelt conference. Several were also Research Universities, some were selective and some had higher transfer ins. According to those comparisons, I would say Georgia Southern would be one of the top schools in Sunbelt if it were in it. I just dont think belittling the university that the whole thread is about is a good idea. I appreciate all your factoids, but let me point out a few things. 1. Georgia Southern has just over 60,000 paying members of the Alumni Association - not the same thing as total living alumni. 2. Secondly, Savannah isnt the highest concentration of paying members of the Alumni Association. Statesboro is number one, Savannah is number 2, Atlanta counties are ranked afterwards. Of course Savannah and Statesboro added together are the highest concentration overall. 3. Georgia Southern

  12. I believe it was Machholz - except its path is slightly different from the website. It flew thru the triangle shown at the top of the page. It was also extremely bright when we noticed it, but about an hour later is was extremely dim, like just a hazy cloud. It was so bright at first that my Dad called to tell us that he just randomly saw it in the sky while working. Odd. http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/come...olz_041207.html Or after reading your second article, maybe it was holmes, because it was extremely bright at first, but I wouldnt say that it was larger than the sun - lol. That would be slightly freaky. So this is totally off topic - does anyone think anything major is going to happen on Dec 21, 2012? lol - no really, Im serious.
  13. So there's a comet flying above Statesboro right now - but I havent heard anything about it or what it supposed to be... its moving pretty fast though - I wonder if anyone knows anything about it???
  14. I would prefer Georgia Southern to enter a more competitive and presitgious conference and take more time to build up the program and competitiveness, than join a second-rate conference with satellite campus schools and being more competitve from the get go. I think its in GSU's best interest to take the heat for a while in a better conference than settling for being average competing against schools in the Sunbelt Conference. Georgia Southern is rapidly moving up in the ranks of schools according to prestige and academic excellence. I would not want our football program to compete against and therefore be associated in the minds of football fans with non-peer and non-aspirational institutions. Our enrollment is small because we are somewhat selective and reject 60% of applicants. I am not going to support competing against schools that no one has ever heard of. As for those who are not supportive or not sure about GSU moving up to DIA - while we may not be the best of the best right now in our own divison, we have seen the victories (six national championship winners) and are ready for something more. I feel that Georgia Southern has proved itself and has accomplished about all that it desires to do in DIAA. Thats my two cents, and yes, I do sometimes come across as particularly stuck up when it comes to my alma mater - because I am.
  15. Facilities update: Georgia Southern needs to add 6300 parking spaces by 2017 to accommodate the expected 25,000 student enrollment for that year. In the short term, the school needs to add 1200 spaces by 2011 just to handle our current growth. There is no more land. Current enrollment is at 16,841 (highest in history, also the mean SAT score rose to 1108 - up from 1105 last Fall). Georgia Southern
  16. Thats exciting Pete - I was wondering what ever happened to that "deal" for Fair Road - its a beautiful piece of property with lots of potential, especially the whole hill thing, it would be nice to see businesses or multi-family units lined down the hill or something like that. I cant seem to find anything on Heard Development, LLC. either except that they are based out of Marietta. Im so excited about getting done with this semester though - it has been crazy.
  17. Well it seems that the Statesboro forum has been struggling this season, but I think that has a lot to do with people being extremely busy with school and work. I am so excited about some of the things that are happening and are soon to occur in Statesboro and on the Georgia Southern campus. I have a lot to report about, so expect a huge post as soon as finals are over!! =)
  18. Thats what I was thinking Morgan, because the SMall lost over 300 parking spaces with starbucks down to around 1,400 parking spaces, and the city told them they had to figure out a solution to add more parking before they could expand. Not that I like the idea of the SMall expanding - I would prefer a new Mall altogether and maybe they could burn this one down. I dont want to see Statesboro turn into a huge shopping center city, with no real mall, but it looks like its going to turn into a Griffin, GA if were not careful. Who knows though maybe Simon will notice Statesboro and enter the market one glad morning.
  19. Centennial Place Sitework begins on Bulloch's Largest Residential Complex in March 2008 Four 4-story Buildings --- 1,001 Beds --- 263,477 Square Feet --- $44-million 1,001 beds - Centennial Place 964 beds - Campus Club 840 beds - The Exchange by Fairfield 796 beds - Eagle Village 754 beds - Copper Beech Street-level retail and commercial Spaces will be available facing Georgia Avenue and Forest Drive.
  20. At the end of the Spring 2008 semester, Olliff Hall, Winburn Hall and Johnson Hall as well as the ROTC building and the SDRC will all be torn down to make way for Centennial Place. Exact bedroom counts have not yet been released, but officials are stating that CP will accommodate approximately 1,000 beds. The exact number will likely be around 11-1200-ish, but for the time being, their sticking to saying 1,000. Due to the soil type, the structure will more likely be 4-stories instead of six. They are still finalizing architectural plans so such specifics have not been announced yet. I have heard one person say it will be 3 stories, but everyone else Ive talked to are saying 4. On the bottom floor at street level, the university is working to bring in some retail and restaurant establishments to line Georgia Avenue and Forest Drive creating a walking-type mall facing the bookstore and foy. The Foy Buildng "project will do extensive renovations in the Foy Builing to convert it from a general arts instructional facility to a music facility. The building HVAC infrastrecture will be totally replaced. Modifications to existing spaces and technology upgrades will be included in the work."
  21. Georgia Southern University Highlights for 2006-2007: The only school in the USG to increase its average SAT score of incoming freshmen for 12 consecutive years. Freshmen SAT average of 1104. SAT average has increased 117 points since Bruce Grube became our 11th president in 1999. Final Enrollment count for Fall 2006, was 16,425. First-time, fulltime freshmen accounted for 2,732. Phase I of the $22.7 million project opened in October 2006. The first phase consisted of an 89,000 sf addition to the eastside of the original building. The addition also included the 45 foot tall Automatic Retrieval Collection (ARC), capable of storing 800,000 items in 5,848 storage bins. The second phase is slated to open in Fall 2008. The Department of Chemistry was ranked #19 by the American Chemical Society Committee on Professional Training
  22. Centennial Village Phase I I just wanted to update everyone that Georgia Southern has announced the first phase of Centennial Village. This academic year will be the last year for Johnson Hall, Olliff Hall, and Winburn Hall. The three residence halls will be demolished after this academic school year to make way for Phase I of Centennial Village. This phase will construct a 1,000 bedroom residence hall. This building will be one of the largest in Statesboro, as it will house more residents than any residential complex in Bulloch County. Campus Club is currently the largest residential complex as it houses just under 1000 people in 17 buildings. This will house 1000 students in ONE residence hall. Im not sure how tall it will be, but I was told that it may be up to 6-stories if the soil permits. It will probably be one of the taller buildings in Statesboro as well.
  23. We did recently hire a new Downtown Development Authority Director.
