Couldn't agree more. Has that newer reporter quit doing the Ryan Seacrest tagline yet? That's when I gave up.
The OBJ really is becoming the absolute worst. Bungalower came along just in time.

I just posted about this in the old 801 N. Orange Thread (you can see the old renderings there.) Here's 800 N. Orange's new look: http://library.constantcontact.com/download/get/file/1102989576106-70/800+N.+Orange+Ave..pdf
I participated in the meetings with Ustler last time, and I'm very interested in the revival of this project (albiet glad I don't own a unit adjacent to the 800 N. Orange lot.) The only concern I have with this and every other project happening around here is parking.
A zoning variance application has been submitted for the vacant lot surrounded by Park North condos (800 N Orange Ave). Setbacks typically required for both properties are too close and a shared driveway easement leading to Park North's parking garage was never recorded by the city. They are asking for a variance to the side yard setback to allow for more surface parking rather than construct a parking garage as previously planned. The 5 story office building will have 38 surface parking spaces, and 8 ground level garage spaces with access to the lobby - something similar to the citrus building accross the street. I do recall Park North fighting this development in the past, but it seems as if both parties have come to a compromise.

wow; those shots are fantastic. i especially love the shot of magnolia. <3
i'll have to forward a link to these to a girlfriend of mine who lived in one of the houses across from urban rethink back in the late 90s. she'll appreciate it!

noticed tonight that there's all new tile on the front of the dolive, but it looks like the interiors are gutted. anyone have ideas of the plans for this building? lots of my young adulthood memories happened within those walls ... would be nice to see it brought to life again — even if not in the full-blown way that was once proposed.

this will be a lovely addition to parts "this side" of colonial. i hope it happens!
thanks for sharing, de

palmtree, from where did you receive this email? i am interested in getting on that email list, as i live in uptown and would like to know of these meetings and projects, too!
I just got an e-mail about an open house for people interested in the bike path that will run from Loch Haven Park to Magnolia. I cross this path on Virginia at least twice a day and always feel like I should be looking for a train. I had no idea it was actually an old rail bed. Does anyone know if this path will hook up to Getrude's Walk. If so, you could bike from Florida Hospital to Church Street without being in traffic.

I was thinking the same thing re: steel construction, but there's a reinforced concrete column over on the other side, so it looks like it may be all poured concrete.
lots of beams up now, so y'all may be right!

yahoo! a new tenant in the wpv!
Press 101 Sandwich and Wine Bar is expanding to Winter Park. The Dr. Phillips-based restaurant signed a deal last month to open its second location in a 3,000-square-foot space in Winter Park Village. The new space will include the Starbucks that closed in 2008 as well as Uberbot, which closed earlier this year, said Paul Rutledge, executive vice president of Columbus, Ohio-based landlord Casto Lifestyle Properties...

does anyone know how the theater selected its initial movies and how it plans to do so in the future? it seems the theater would use use its first showings as a way to establish its desired market or showcase its approach to planned diversity. if this is, indeed, what's happening, wow. don't get me wrong -- i'm a huge jason statham fan, but two statham films and a selection of which 60% i own on dvd? as it stands, i can't wait to go, but the thought of re-watching favorites (with the exception of old, OLD classics) on the big screen is holding me back. am i in the minority here? (yes, i know there are a couple of new releases, but the features are overwhelmingly available on dvd.)
i am also disappointed because it advertised sugar, yet no sugar.

Just a heads up.....anyone that have used their credit card at Tastings Downtown on E. Washington need to double check to see if they have double charged you. They are currently rectifying the situation.
crazy ... we were there the same day (one of the two with double charges, nov 28 and dec 2, i think). thanks for the heads up!

two things:
green day cafe, a new eco-friendly little fast-food wrap and sandwich place on lee road in the old taco bell building has very tasty salads and wraps. i got mixed greens with hummus and guac, and it was flavourful without using the organic salad dressing provided.
and i tried coqui mexicano last week. i had a fantastically spicy chicken sopes. good mofungo, but the bacalhau made the dish too salty (it was like they didn't soak the codfish long enough, which usually means days). i will definitely go back to try the nachos with tomatillio sauce that my friend raved about ... once, that is, we get over the fact that they overcharged our credit card almost 25% (which we thought was just an authorization as other places do, but it turned out to indeed be the amount they charged us.) i hope this was just a neophyte mistake!

Publix in Winter Park Village is supposed to be opening around Dec 13. It's been fun seeing it come together. Today came the brand-new shopping carts and the green recycling bins. :-)

I just received the snail mail notice about the public review of Orange Ave resurfacing from Colonial to Mills (FPN No. 422004-1-52-01) on Nov 20 @ 5 pm @ the Loch Haven Neighborhood Center. Project Scope, to begin construction in August 2009:
* Milling & Resurfacing of roadway and parking lanes
* ADA upgrades and curb ramp improvements @ all intersections and side streets
* Signal upgrades to Mast Arms @ Magnolia and 50, Orange, Ivanhoe, Highland; Orange and Highland
* Additional signal upgrades @ Orange & New Hampsire, Clay/Wilkinson
* Parking spaces to be striped and upgraded, preserving and/or adding on-street parking if possible
* Southbound Orange (one-way) reduced from 4 to 3 travel lanes and a bike lane added
* Bike lane added to northbound Magnolia (one-way)
* Sidewalk addition @ Statue of Liberty Islands
* Construct bulb outs @ Orange and Marks, 50
I'm psyched about the reduction of lanes to 3 at s.b. Orange with a bike lane. Things always seem too tight the way it is. And bulbouts at Orange and 50 sure will be an improvement to what's there now!

saturday, i shared a chocolate mousse and apple tart at the french bakery next to gurtzberry over there on morse. those suckers were delicious. maybe next time try the sweet treats instead of the yogurt!

Thanks for the advice, guys! Il Pescatore--- you won my agreement with the hot dog bun comment! Hahaha. I've been eyeing Proccolino's, so I will definitely check it out.
I've been meaning to post how great Bikes, Beans & Bordeaux really is. It's on Corrine Drive in the strip across from Big Daddy's and it's terrific. Great nosh, excellent rotating wine offerings, great red and white Sangria (better than Ceviche's, actually... That's right Tennis, you need to try it), and their espresso comes freshly roasted out of Atlanta and it's AMAZING. The service is just as great. Jen, co-owner I believe, remembered my name a month after my first and only visit at the time. I don't remember reading anyone's review on them but I highly recommend them... tomorrow (Saturday the 6th) is a art show.
i agree with you on b, b & b. i fell in love with the joint in june and have been back weekly ever since. i'm glad someone else here is making the trek out there to enjoy this gem.

Just updating those who haven't heard: Soon to be occuping the old VOM spot at 801 N. Orange Ave. is Green Day Cafe, its second location in Central Florida (or third if you count the old Taco Bell on Lee Rd. from which it moved to its current Winter Park locale.)
