  1. I understand where everyone is coming from on talking about the lack of pedestrian friendliness, but you have to understand codes and how it works with the site. The site topography slopes and there are certain ADA requirements that must be met. So having these steps on the sides is needed to create a level walking surface throughout the complex that meets College Street. Just thought I'd add some "reality" points to the topic at hand.
  2. georgia tech. scad is a great school i hear, definetley give it a shot.
  3. if it's anything like the one at lenox, then it's probably comparable in size to the urban outfitters, yet it will be divided in to smaller rooms like abercrombie & fitch for an intimate feel.
  4. I think a retailer that would do well in the new Southpark wing near NM would be Ruehl (the new brand by A&F). It's geared more towards the 25-35 crowd. Plus Charlotte is apparently on their radar with a few other cities for openings this year. It wouldn't surprise me if they announced this retailer as part of the lineup for that wing.
  5. The AJC has an interesting article about the Hall of Fame in it's business section today. It mentions the new GA Aquarium has a "leg up" for Atlanta, but says that France said Charlotte has two advantages over Atlanta: secure funding and plenty of nearby Nascar drivers/headquarters for their annual "red carpet" thing. Check it out online at ajc.com for the full article. quite interesting.

Also, if you haven't noticed on the rezoning petition site plan, in the upper right hand corner of one of the pages it lists the # of stories at 50. so perhaps the rumor of adding 8 to that is not true anymore.
  8. For those of you finally looking for Kansas City renderings, they have just been released on http://www.KansasCity.com.
  9. What are details of this proposal outlined in the CBJ?
  10. News 14 has two new renderings in their gallery on their article for the hall of fame that really highlight more of the architectural details. In my opinion, the architecture is stunning, not overall impressive/abstract, but I think our building is phenomenal compared to the other simplistic renderings from Richmond and Daytona.
  11. I completely agree. Check out the renderings on the Charlotte Center City Partners website. Small, but awesome.
  12. The NC House finally passed the hotel tax. And now we have the land. If we don't get awarded this then I'll be pissed.
  13. That's good news to hear. I'm sure any city would love to hear from IKEA about possible sites. Here in Atlanta, IKEA is opening a store in Midtown in the Atlantic Station development and it's big news. I think the Hal Marshall site is not bad, but i'm sure there are many other better ones. If chosen, that site should not have a huge big-box IKEA sitting on it. IKEA should be incorporated in the design, like having some sort of other development component.
  14. this could be a possible sign for Saks or like you said Crate & Barrel.
  15. So it appears Simon is going to put luxury condos in it's planned outparcel of retail along Southpark. It'll be the first mixed-use portion for any Simon mall. Here's the article talking about it briefly: Simon looking at mixed-use potential of all its properties
  16. Charlotte's estimates do seem somewhat low, but 1 million is a bit high for Charlotte. I can see Atlanta, posssibly KCity(but unlikely) getting that amount since a lot of people do visit the Atlanta area on a yearly basis and just not during certain times. I think Charlotte could support an average 500-600,000 visitors a year for the HOF. Althought I think these numbers will decrease after the opening year or two, no matter where it is built.
  17. Finally some numbers. I feel that with Charlotte having chosen a site, picked a very well-respected and elite architect, and constructed a financial package, that Charlotte deserves this. Being down here in Atlanta for school, I have not heard that much so far on Atlanta's proposal. Charlotte is leaving everyone else in the dust.
  18. I completely agree altrvr. I seriously think this Nascar Hall of Fame should be placed next to a light rail line uptown. It would be foolish not. Or atleast in very close proximity. We are spending all this money to bring people downtown, so bring them to places where they want to go. This hall of fame should be uptown and not in a suburb, or anywhere else. I'm sure all of the other city bids are putting theres in their downtown. Plus this would be a great economic boost to downtown.
  19. so atlrvr....are you suggesting that BofA is in a deal to put the mint museum in a project they are working on at tryon and 7th streets???
