  12. With regards to Elio, skeptical at best, lol... They've got a long ways to go to get to that magic 200 million dollar threshold to get the thing rolling. I hope they get there, but I'm not holding my breath. As for the CSC, I'm not sure. It got a week's worth of press when they announced the deal, but it's kinda gone stealth since then. I know they're working hard to get things up and running. That project has the potentially be huge, as it can be the catalyst to attracting more businesses to support its mission, grow the research park clientele, and to enhance the number of CS-trained grads into our region... http://www.landrieu.senate.gov/?p=news&id=4413 http://www.landrieu.senate.gov/?p=news&id=4417
  13. Haha, these ventures are in the process of coming online. Some further along than others. the steel mill should be finished by the end of the year, with most of it coming online sometime within the next couple of years. That could be a mixed bag; some native, some new to the area. The CSC announcement came earlier this year. There's already a small skeleton crew that is working out of the main Cyber Innovation Center building until they can build their future home. Because of the specificity of skill required for those jobs, I'm willing to bet that those will be transplants until La Tech and BPCC can get their respective computer science programs cranked up. There is also a startup car company that's trying to get funding to start production in 2015. Since GM closed a couple of years ago there's already a trained workforce indigenous to this area. So, to answer your question, it's all of the above... http://www.prweb.com/releases/2014/05/prweb11830638.htm http://www.areadevelopment.com/newsitems/9-16-2013/benteler-international-manufacturing-project-shreveport-louisiana890123.shtml http://m.ksla.com/#!/newsDetail/24756497
  14. I pondered long and hard on how I should respond to your post, but in the spirit of civility, I won't go back and forth... I'll just leave it at this, and I'm done with it. While Shreveport-Bossier has its quarks and disadvantages, I believe we are poised for something special in the coming years. Shreveport-Bossier is different from the rest of the state culturally-wise... We have influences from Texas, as well as some from our neighbors down south. But, I believe it's those differences that make our area inherently unique. We're a conglomeration of many different cultures and backgrounds... Now, if this was 1992, I would probably agree with most of your assessment of our economic potential. We'll probably never compete the major metropolises that surround us (NO, Dallas, Houston, etc.,.), but that's not our battle to fight. Look, I applaud the growth that's being exhibited in other parts of the state. When NO, BR, and Lafayette does well, we all benefit from that. I'm not jealous of what's going on down there. Do I wish our growth would accelerate a little bit quicker...sure. But I'm bullish on our our future here, and I hope I can continue to highlight the positive stories and events associated with Shreveport-Bossier's socio-economic development. Let's keep the focus on that, and not on what isn't happening according to some...
