  1. This is great news and should leave no doubt that renovation, upgrade and expansion of the terminal is needed. Are there any projections for passenger activity at the airport over the next 10 years?
  2. I believe there are powerful persons in this city and county that are determined for the city of Birmingham to fail. Why? Just look at the racial make-up of the county commission and the city commission. I believe that racism is alive and well and these people want to bring the city of Birmingham to its knees. When has Jeffco ever been as uncooperative with issues that involve Hoover, Homewood or Vestavia Hills? I believe if the City of Hoover could muster up the same level of financial support for a dome the Jeffco commission would approach it with an totally different attitude. What is really sad is the city government and the mayor are clueless. I for one am sick of this nonsense. Something needs to be done and I wish the people of Jeffco and Birmingham would wise up and come together for the good of the entire area.
  3. My wife and I visited New York last month for the first time. We stayed at Times Square and had a wonderful time. The city is magnificent and the people were friendly and helpful. Now I better understand why I see so many 'I Love NY' bumper stickers and tee shirts. New York isn't just a city it is a national treasure.
  4. Regardless of the committee's decision, I fear that the only way to save the building is for the owner to change their plans. So if you know anybody who would like to make an offer on a beautiful historic building with lots of natural light, let the publisher know ASAP.
  5. I have noticed that BHM has not update their passenger statistics since March. Does anyone know why?
  6. I guess I am an idiot but 40 years ago the 'intelligent' people were saying Birmingham doesn't need a civic center. But now, where would this city be without the BJCC? This city desperately needs an improved civic center, an entertainment district, more hotels and a dome. I have to wonder if people here realize how far behind we really are. This is not only about entertainment for the city, it is about a commitment to the future to attract interest from prospective business and employers that want to locate in a progressive city.
  7. I read that 161 million has been budgeted for the terminal expansion. Sounds like a significant expansion. Does anyone know what is planned relative to the expansion?
  8. It will definately retain its name and image but the improvements will make the hotel better than ever. The exterior of the building will remain untouched except for paint and some exterior lighting upgrades, which will actually better reflect the age of the hotel. The first floor will remain unchanged except of some renovations at the front desk area. Floors 2 through 7 will get new finishes, paint, wallpaper, carpet and the corridors will get new lighting. The 8th floor was never finished out from the 1986 renovation. The floor is to be completely finished with a breakfast dining area, excercise room and 14 new suites.
  9. Is the 6 story hotel to replace old motor hotel south of University? Do you know which block on 20th street the 16 story mixed use will be built and its schedule?
  10. It is very true. But it will continue to be the Tutwiler Hotel and will be better than ever. The eighth floor will be finished out to include corporate suites and a breakfast dining area. The other guest room floors will get new finishes and hallway lighting.
