So, completely off the wall, but I just noticed another Hot 'N' Now casualty. The Mt. Pleasant restaurant will be converted to an Oh My Burgers and Fries. I think this is going to just be a local operation... I've never heard of it before. According to Wikipedia, that only leaves four other Hot 'N' Now's in Michigan.

I believe that the old Walgreen's on the SW corner will be torn down after the new Walgreen's is built. My fiance works for the company... Apparently the old design didn't fit well enough into the new cookie cutter design, also, it was too small. Not trying to stray off the GVSU topic, but in other Lake Michigan Drive news, the Speedway at Collindale (where I work) will probably be torn down and rebuilt this fall. Think four times bigger and maybe even a car wash.

I spent close to a week earlier in the month in Seattle. I was impressed by a number of things there. 1. The great bussing system and soon to be monorail. 2. The pedestrian friendliness aspects of the city. Not just the streets, but the motorists, too. Pedestrians always have the right of way, but in Seattle, the motorists know it. 3. Even with the hills, people still walk and bike. It's possible in GR... maybe not in the dead of winter, but I'd have to believe that there's hope.

I agree. I shop at the Jenison Meijer, now in a state of remodel (which is looking very nice) but I know many people that drive over to Grandville or up to Standale to shop at the "new" Meijer. Jenison is store #26. I think they're now pushing 200 stores, so it's definitely old, and the word around Jenison is that people can't wait to get to the Meijer when it's finished -- especially with a starbucks!
