  1. The one that gets me in the Biltmore is the condo tower built right up against the Ritz. Talk about obliterating a view...haha. I love the Biltmore area, though. The Fashion Park area at any rate...the Biltmore itself is nice too. Thanks for the art building pics, loftguy. It is also that.
  2. Downtown is one square mile? I wonder how big Portland is...probably about the same. Portland's downtown is pretty small and easy to walk around in. Fiftytwosouth...that's good info and just what I like the hear. Thanks. It makes Fed Hill sound like my own hood and that suits me fine.
  3. Right on! This is what I'm talking about! Thanks for the info everyone, this is all very helpful. That hood map Cotuit posted is perfect...thanks. Providence is small it seems. I guess it would have to be to fit in Rhode Island and leave room for anything else. Twenty minute walks make even shorter bike rides. I wonder about walking in the snow...just have to suck it up I guess...haha.
  4. So it's pretty feasible to rent an apartment downtown Providence...downcity as you all say? I'm a downtown sort of fellow and will not have a car. I like the pedestrian way of things. I look on Craigslist and have seen some pretty good places...they look good inthe pics of course...for very decent prices for the East Coast. Reminds me a little of Seattle financially to be honest. So this Federal Hill hood is how close or far from Downtown? I think I'll get a map today to help me with the logistics of all this.
  5. Perhaps the statue was meant to go in another spot where he would be swearing on a bible in a court type setting? Maybe not.
  6. Tempe is cool and Mill and environs are about as close to a pedestrian environment as you'll find in the valley. It's become too collegiate for me as I've hit my thirties but I still have affection for the area. A cool photo would be one of the...art or architecture building I think. It's located on campus right off Mill and next to Gammage. The criminal front man for the hotel is nothing new for PHX metro. Charles Keating served several years in prison for financial offences. Keating is the man who brought The Phoenician Hotel, one of the best hotels in the country, to Phoenix. Tempe Town Lake will eventually be lined with shops and a few hotels I wager. That was the plan when it was conceptualized.
  7. So how about if you're looking for a studio apartment in this hood? What would be a fair price to expect? I like the dog friendly aspect of this hood as you describe it? Is it easy to access downtown Providence? Or how far is the train station to head up to Boston for commute?
  8. A question about parking is inappropriate? What?
  9. I am thinking about heading over to the East Coast again...this time for a longer stay I hope. I am intimidated by the finances of moving straight into Boston or NYC, though. I am thinking of hitting one of the smaller cities which are hopefully more affordable. Providence, Hartford, Manchester, Portland...all these places I am interested in. There are probably many places I don't know about that would be perfect. I want someplace nice with access to Boston. My thinking is that once I am stable in the area it would be easier to move into Boston...unless I like where I am at enough to stay put.
  10. Is downtown Providence at all livable?
  11. All you guys moving to Boston...don't forget to get a place with an extra bedroom so it'll be ready when I show up. Just Email me the address and leave the key under the mat.
  12. Looks like cool little bar. Too bad it's closing. I live in Portland and there is a bar in my hood that has to be in the running for smallest in the country. I'ts smaller than my studio apartment and couldn't have more than ten seats. I marvel at the little place every time I walk by. The good side of a little bar is that it always looks like a popular destination.
  13. I love these towers. I wouldn't worry about the historical aspect of a city like London...there's enough history there to support some modern towers. The contrasts will enahance each other.
  14. Right on Randy. While so many people were crying about the circus the monorail had become Sound Transit was quietly building the light rail. Once these rails start they tend to continue. I can't wait to see trains in the tunnel.
  15. What's the cost of living in Portland? My ex-fiance and I once entertained plans of moving there. I always imagine moving there anyway...just up and going without telling anyone...haha. How far is Boston by car or train? I read these books and much of the action takes place in Portland and environs.
