  1. Billy Reid can't be open! I was there a week and two days ago and they had yet to put up drywall let alone a ceiling, paint, decor items, and an entrance. I think this is a mistake.

I think it is a mistake too. I was there YESTERDAY and walk by there at least 2 times a day (I always park by the NM elevator... close to work) and there was still construction going on. I guess I will find out tomorrow when I go to work.

Also, if anyone wants to look nosey while in the mall... the temp. door to the Hermes store has about a half inch gap in it that you can peek in and check things out. Looks to be a fairly big store, granted it is just cement floors and walls. Not that I am spying or anything....

  2. Hah, have good luck tomorrow Steven! I went to Neiman Marcus tonight to only be turned away by store employees who told us the store was closing even though it was exactly 7:10 PM and the store closes at 9:00 PM on M-Sat.

Actually, they close at 6pm on Saturday. They stayed open a bit longer this past weekend due to the number of people in the store.

  3. The Hollywood Video kiosk opened today. I walked by and it looks like a kiosk selling previously viewed DVDs. Not sure if they do rentals. It is in the Dillard's wing.

Also, the last store in the NM wing will be annouced Sept. 6th and the merchant meeting.

  4. Sorry, I did not actually use the machine. It only stocked 10 or so dvds, so I just went into the store and rented one. The advantage to the machine is that you only need a credit card, no registration required. Has anyone else seen one of these? I did not realize they had not started rolling these out in other places, although maybe we will soon see one at Southpark.

There is something similar in the Bloom grocery store in the University area if I remember correctly.

  5. Couple of things I saw today at work...

Painters were out this morning painting the Hermes logo all over the orange wall were Heremes will be. I know, nothing exciting....

As I was taking cardboard boxes to the compactor, I noticed outside the mall office door were some signs (like the ones that go on top of the little kiosks) and they read "Hollywood Video".... Could there be some sort of movie rental kiosk going in the mall somewhere?

  6. In the Ralph Lauren store? It looks like it's about ready to open, from what I could tell, 50 feet away.

I've gone in there twice now and I am not that impressed. It is too small for the amount of stuff they are trying to fit in there. There was a few Purple Label sweaters but I saw nothing else from that line. I thought the polo "wall" was small and lacking as well. I guess I was just expecting more.

  7. It looks like the 4th retailer will be a Boutique called "Billy Reid". Never heard of this one, but i'm sure it is meant for the neiman marcus wing. Does anyone know the square footage of that remaining slot? That might give us a idea as to what retailer to expect?

That is odd. Billy Reid only has 3 stores: Dallas, Houston, and Florence, AL. Now Charlotte.

Here is the Observer article where it mentions Billy Reid coming to Charlotte.

    Observer - Billy Reid

  8. Is there going to be 5 stores in the NM wing? Polo and BCBG on the left (Polo now has their blue wall taken down, almost ready to open), and then Hermes on the right but it looks now as if there are two slots left on the right side. I noticed several construction workers going in and out of the spot next to Hermes so it seems as if something is in the works.

  9. Does anyone have any confirmation on what the final store will be in the new wing? seems like all the others are opening up about now, but nothing has been announced. also the village is coming along nicely, still wondering what's going there.

Nothing has been announced yet. I don't think we will hear anything until after Hermes opens in Nov.

  10. Has Neiman Marcus stores always just accepted cash, American Express and Neiman Marcus card only? I know on the website will accept Visa and Mastercard but the SouthPark NM, as far as credit is concerned, will only accept American Express and Neiman Marcus. According to a friend of mine that is an asst. manager at NM they will not accept Visa and Mastercard because Visa and MC sell their information and NM wants to keep their client list private. Are all Neiman stores like this? I have a feeling this is going to piss off ALOT of people that are new to shopping at NM.

Also, if anyone cares, the avg. handbag price at the NM store will be $1500.

  11. Thanks for the info- did you see a restaurant or cafe-type thing in there?

With all the ladders and other construction equipment still in the store, it was hard to really make out anything specific. Plus I was looking at it from around Tiffany's front door so i wasn't exactly up close and personal.

I was at the mall last week and my buddy asked the dude at Caryle & Co. how expensive was their most valauble piece of jewelry and the guy said 60k. I wonder what it is at Tiffany's.

One of the security guards that works there came in looking for a job (apparently working security is boring, who would have thunk it?) and is a pretty nice guy. I see him walking around the mall everyonce in a while, I'll try to remember and ask him next time I see him.

  12. NM had their doors open this morning before the mall opened while they were doing work on the entrance way into the mall. I tried to get a good look inside but I was running late for work. Looks like things are coming right along... almost all of the fixtures looked to be in. Not much else I could see except for the escalators in the middle of the store. Not the most excited report from the mall but hey, I tried :)

  13. The cookies are huge- very thick and chewy- and absolutely delicious. The downtown Dallas NM is the only place I've had them- there is a cafe on the ground floor there. At least hopefully we'll have that!

Curious too why the NM at SouthPark is closing at 7pm most days- don't they realize that hard-working people can't make it to the store then except on Saturdays?

That can't be right.... they close at 6pm on Saturday!?

  14. Wow!

Now THAT is a first-tier retailer and a BIG catch for Charlotte as well! The Thomas Pinks in Manhattan and Boston aren't that big so SP could have a store that rivals the NY ones (not just a postage-stamp replica of Manhattan stores).

    Excellent!

I'm hoping it is true but this is coming second hand from someone from Ralph Lauren so I am not getting my hopes up too much. Thomas Pink makes a damn fine shirt.

  15. I know of a couple people that have interviewed with Ralph Lauren and RL is saying that Thomas Pink is "strong and likely" for the 4th spot in Neiman Marcus wing. I really hope that is true because the mall could use more menswear stores. I know they do womens as well, but their focus is mens and other than brooks brothers there isn't too many places (other than dept. stores) that has a strong mens section.

  16. I also noticed today that there is a sign in front of what used to be Leonardo stating that Johnston & Murphy is moving there (temporary location). Are they going to remodel their current store? Also, Gap is about empty in preparation to close for remodeling. bebe is coming along nicely and should be open any day now.

  17. Someone from Tire Kingdom came around through the mall giving out VIP discount cards to mall employees today. According to her there will be a kiosk in the mall and they guarantee tires within 2 hours. Not sure where the actual shop is (didn't think to ask). I am hoping it is full service because it would be great if i could come to work, have them take my car and change the oil/filter, etc... while I am at work and it be ready when I get off. I'm kind of excited about this!

  18. According to the mall newsletter that we got at our store, Polo and BCBG will open in August (can't remember the exact dates, but I think Polo opens on the 16th), Neiman Marcus in September (we all know that), and Hermes in November (no exact date set)

  19. I thought someone posted that it was closing however the CBJ reported that sales at the store far exceeded expectations and Leonardo's N. AMerican HQ is in SouthPark so I thought it would be wierd that they wouldn't want a store nearby. I don't know though. I'm just saying that from what I can see it makes all of the sense in the world for it to stay in the mall somewhere.

Well, according to their store manager they are closing and if you go to the store, everything is 50% off.
