whyyyy  is it short and stubby???

I mean its a nice design but idk I guess i was expecting the Burj Khalifa

I'm still counting 40 floors ... so stubby, maybe, but short?  Really?  Each of those white squares  looks to be about 3 floors each  and there are 12 of them.  So that's 36. And by that scale there's another estimated 4 floors down by the lobby.  Total, about  40.

... There was enough truth to the accusation that everyone from the Board of Trustees on down went to great lengths to prove it wasn’t so. They mostly succeeded

... I think the BoT and everyone on down went to great lengths to prove it wasn't so, because IT WASN'T SO.

  3. Funny that whenever I said this is a bad design back before construction, everyone shot me down.  The west side reminds me of two buildings.  One we all call the I-4 eyesore.  And the other was the Barnett Bank on Park Ave, Winter Park which was eventually skinned and re-clad in something more masonry. looking.  Now it's home to Luma and BOA and very popular.  The East side .... yikes.

Or perhaps you would be more comfortable with the statement:

The IPO was unsuccessful, as proposed.

Unsuccessful would imply it was at least attempted.  It doesn't sound like it ever got that far..   Bad analogy would be:  "I'm going to swim across the Atlantic; better still, I'll take a dip in the pool."   Does this mean my Atlantic crossing was "unsuccessful"?  The IPO might have been unsuccessful, but since it was never attempted, we'll never know.  It also might have been hugely successful.

  5. The OBJ article regarding T2 says "next" office tower.  I hope that is exclusive to "office" towers and not residential towers.  With all that are lined up, (Zoi, X-Orlanddo, etc.) I'd hate to think we'd have to wait until January to get something else out of the ground.  This also makes me wonder if they consider the Magic 10-story HQ a tower or not.

Knowing OBJ, it's just them throwing words out without much thought.

  6. A little update:  After having a clear lot for several months, the Hilton Garden site seems to be under construction.  They put up a  construction  fence and wrap with images of the hotel (four floors).  There's more equipment on site and dirt is being turned.

Regarding sites  on  the north and east of the original 7 story apartments:  The site north of that building was turned into a parking lot.  It's paved with landscaped islands.  East the apartments does have some concrete drainage pipes  but no signs of imminent construction.  The sign for Spring Hill Suites by Marriott on  17-92 is still there.

This is probably the most appropriate thread for news around Orange and Princeton. In response to cwetteland’s post in another thread, I believe you’re correct about it belonging to AdventHealth (they own the southeast corner where the Theatre “Downtown” was for years).

We’ve known for some time the hospital planned to develop the area - it seems it’s finally happening. Thanks for the update!

For those who missed my original post,  it pointed out that the  NE block of Princeton and Orange is now fenced (including the Orlando Ballet space), and  demolition is underway.

  8. Not sure what thread to put this in.   Noticed today that the block at NE corner of  Princeton and Orange is fenced off and demolition has begun.  This includes the Orlando Ballet space, even thought their new facility on Lake Formosa is in early phase of construction.  I'm pretty sure the block is owned by Advent Health but not sure what is going up there.

Last I saw it was 8 months and $100M over budget, unless that has changed the Sentinel reported on it. Going great!

Haven't seen any updates.  The $100M seemed huge until you figure that it's less than 4 1/2 % over.   I wasn't surprised at the 8 months either.  It kicked off at the same time everything else did.  DPAC, OIA expansion, etc.   They were hiring heavy equipment operators with no experience and offering OJT.

...  Besides, still no sign of Magic doing anything with their project.

While I agree that the Magic have delayed and delayed wouldn't bet on them this time, but,  the latest plan released a few months back said demolition of the rescue mission was to begin in April with construction in the 3rd quarter.  So the fact that nothing is happening in March means nothing regarding the current plans.  They're  right on schedule :)

I live in Oakland which is physically 34760 but Oakland doesn’t have a post office that delivers so my mailing address uses Winter Garden’s 34787. I wonder if the situation was similar for Gotha

Unincorporated parts of Orange County and areas not fully supported by post offices make ZIP codes and what town people actually live in very confusing around here. On the west side, soooo many people think they live in Windermere when they really just live in unincorporated Orange County

I would be real nice if this thread got back to being about the project.

Yeah, I get that. But Orlando just isn't a top tier city, so we don't command top tier prices, which means the potential for top tier profits is not there, hence developers who build projects here can't afford top tier architects who design top tier buildings.

It all revolves around the almighty $ and how many of them can be made here as compared to other cities.

At least that's what I think.

Agree.  It's all return on investment.  Land  owners who want to sell, can't hold out decades because of height, or architecture plans don't meet their vision.  If the desired profit is there, it's a sell.   Developers also aren't going to build something they can't sell in Orlando.

Orlando is already criticized for being too expensive for renters.  More height and high-end architecture would only jack up the prices more.
