Is Downtown unattractive?

I hope someone can answer this question for me. Why is it that when a new business or company comes to Augusta they build in West Augusta instead of downtown, is it because there is no immediate access to an interstate? Augusta could have a wonderful skyline if they would just build in downtown!

I think its a common situation in many cities. For one, the cost of developing in the suburbs is less and easier and there are few businesses that actually NEED to be downtown in today's world. Not to mention the fact that suburban job development has just been the trend for many decades.

That being said, if the plans for downtown Augusta continue to move forward it will become a desirable community to businesses as well as residents.
