West Washington Park Down-zoned

blindside

Recommended Posts

The neighborhood west of Washington Park was down-zoned from R-2 to R-1 in response to the construction of duplexes in the area. I am all for the preservation of existing housing stock (especially older and affordable homes) and the character of older neighborhoods, but it seems odd that an urban neighborhood would be completely limited to singe-family homes. Isn't the trend to try and add density to our core cities to make transit more viable and reduce car dependence? Why not allow some denser housing types mixed-in with the single-family homes to add some variety?
