Origins of "Boyce Lawn"

This may be a good question for John Nolan or one of you other Greenville history buffs. I suppose I should probably pick up a copy of John's book as I'm sure the answer may be there within already, but ... since I don't have a copy ...

I've noticed that just about every photo of downtown Greenville which I have mapped on either Google Earth or Flickr indicates that it was taken in "Boyce Lawn." What is the origin and history of Boyce Lawn? I'm sure it has something to do with the the possibility that the land was part of the estate that James Petigru Boyce purchased from Waddy Thompson, Jr. I'm just curious if anybody knows more about it and why it is still referred to as "Boyce Lawn" today.
