New population estimates from the Census Bureau confirm what most Miramar residents already sense as they navigate busy streets, stand in line at Publix or search for parks for their kids.

The city is exploding with growth. The tally of 96,646 residents, many of them expatriates from Miami-Dade County, make it the third-fastest-growing city in the nation among cities with at least 50,000 people. Wow, I new about the booms Pembroke Pines & Coral Springs were having, but I never noticed Miramar's boom. Lets see so soon Broward will have 5 cities over 100,000? (Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Coral Springs, & Miramar wiht Lauderhill, Sunrise, & Plantation closing in.)

They basically annexed a bunch of western swampland, set up a couple of business parks, "stole" other cities jobs and gave developers free reign. The new Miramar has little in common with the old Miramar wich is now mostly west indian immigrants. It's hard to argue that it hasn't been a success though. they accomplished what they set out to do. There was a lot of arguing about the jobs thing and it led to an agreement between the three metro counties that what's good for one is good for all. They now can't give incentives to a business that is already in the metro.

Westin is also another western big boomer in broward. Basically created overnight and people love it out there.

Lauderhill, Sunrise, and Plantation seem pretty stagnant. A lot of immigrants are moving in, but there's been a lot of talk about resurecting central broward into a more urban place. hopefully this is accomplished.
