Latest & Greatest Example of S.C.'s Terrific Record of Conservation

Brosnan Forest, 12,488 acres of longleaf pine forest east of St. George in Dorchester County, protected from development:

Just given by Norfolk Southern Corp. to Lowcountry Open Land Trust, this land is the largest conservation gift in the history of South Carolina, one of the largest in the Southeast, and the largest gift ever by a corporation in the state. I particularly like this quote: "Our state is distinguishing itself," Brunswig said. "I don't know that any other state has done this much conservation." That's one thing we should not forget about our state--we hold our land sacred and are being PROactive about it. (How rare to begin a sentence with "S.C. proactive in . . . "!)

Expect more land protection to follow on the heels of this one, especially the neighboring tracts. This will literally "hedge" off the region's sprawl, closing any NW gap!
