Screen Gems Studios has submitted plans for expansion to the Wilmington Technical Review Committee. According to the Wilmington Star News, the nine sound stages on the 48 acre property are operating at full capacity. Last year was the best year at the studios in about ten years. The expansion would include a 39,005 square foot sound stage, the largest at the facility, a 12,000 square foot warehouse, 12,000 square foot office building and another 12,000 square foot building labeled for "future development".

Some of the recent and current productions using the studios include television series One Tree Hill and Little Britain USA and feature films A Good Old Fashioned, The Marc Pease Experience, Nights in Rodanthe, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever and Bolden!
