Wi-Fi on Amtrak

I am spending entirely too much time on the train to and from New York these days and I haven't been lugging my laptop on day trips but i'm losing so much productivity (what kind of productivity does the tree lady lose on the train that she would gain back on her lap-top--well configuring my fantasy football teams for one and blogging about the gossip in PVD for another, plus there's all those MUDs i'm involved with and following tomorrow night's Sox game that i'll miss because i'll be on the coddamn train all night). Anyway, i have read some old press about how Amtrak and At&T were adding all kinds of hotspots along the NE Corridor and i'm wondering if anyone has found it to actually work?

No. I am back and forth between NY and PVD twice a week and I have yet to find it.

Supposedly, AT&T and Amtrak inked a deal a few years ago to put wi-fi in the STATIONS along the NE Corridor. However, I have not been able to locate it in the stations either.

I use Verizon Wireless broadband on the train from providence to stamford every week or so. It gets a good signal for most of the way...but it is 60 bucks a month.

I read somewhere that you can use your blackberry or smart phone as a broadband modem for your laptop. Has anyone ever gotten that to work successfully?
