GE an Invista will invest 1.1 billion dollars in facilities and equipment in the area in return the county will give 13 million in incentives (over 12 years) to bring 950 high paying jobs to the area. The county Commissioners are expected to approve the incentives, unsure if this will include any state incentives. Do you think this is a good investment of tax money?

Last week Gov. Easley came to Wilmington to announce that the state will pay GE Hitachi Nuclear over $25.7 million for the expansion of its facility, and the creation of 900 new jobs with an average pay of $85,000 a year. The payments will be spread out over 12 years.

The Wilmington location was chosen over 22 other locations around the country. Wilmington has been the world headquarters for GE Hitachi Nuclear Division since 2003.
