An interesting development 'lost' among the paper, today. This sounds like it's going to fill an important niche.

New community bank aids small businesses

DETROIT -- After more than a decade of nurturing his paper products supply company into a successful $10-million-a-year business, Donald Snider is ready to tend another fire in his belly: Helping other minorities.

This summer Snider plans to open a new community bank -- First Spirit Bank -- in a former car dealership on Michigan Avenue in southwest Detroit to serve the Hispanic, African-American and Arab-American communities.

It might not seem like much, but this is huge. Making capital available to the community, supporting small and local businesses... this is what turns neighborhoods and cities around.

Thanks for posting this. I hope this venture is a success.

Yeah, it's these seemingly little things that are actually huge. These type of developments empower neighborhood entrepreneurs looking to start small businesses. So much, and probably too often, municipalities empower the big developers hoping for silver bullets, but the small business owners and entrepreneurs are just as important to empower is not more so.
