I saw in the Chattanoogan.com and thought it would be a good item to share here. It suprised me that it hadn't been already posted.

Chattanooga, Lyndhurst Foundation, Bendwood Foundation, and Allied Arts of Chattanoga have partnered to begin a concept called Arts Move on Main. The program ArtsMove offers working artists forgivable mortgages to move into specific areas of Chattanooga. The program has drawn national attention and has 20 artists that either have moved or will move to the Main Street, Fort Negley, Jefferson Heights or MLK area. Planning includes public art to increase pedestrian traffic on Main St. The artists are required to live, work, or own property in the Main Street blueprint. Exhibits are temporary and will be replaced every 18 months.

The reception for Art Moves on Main is scheduled for March 30. On Thursday the 29th, Friday the 30th and Saturday Chattanooga will experience another first, the Mid-South Sculpture Alliance Conference at Chattanooga State.

This seems to be another innovative catalyst for revitalization. Only time will tell.

Program Description:

The ArtsMove Chattanooga Homebuyer Incentive is designed to assist qualifying artists of all disciplines to purchase residential property in qualifying in-town neighborhoods. The incentive is an up to $15,000 5-year forgivable mortgage which requires no pre-payment and accrues no interest, provided the artist purchases property in a qualifying neighborhood and the property remains owner occupied for the full 5-year term. Qualifying neighborhoods include:

* Cowart Place

* Jefferson Heights

* M L King District

* Fort Negley

* Main Street

Artists may use the incentive for down payment assistance, closing costs, prepaid expenses and upgrades included in the sales contract. Uses are limited to those allowed by the artist's lender.
