Owosso theater burns, Lebowsky Center latest landmark struck by fire

Cleanup was under way downtown this morning after a fire heavily damaged the Joseph H. Lebowsky Center for the Performing Arts, an 80-year-old landmark theater at the corner of E. Main and Park streets.

This is the third proiminent Owosso building to be destroyed by fire in the past 2 years.

Well at least the building is still "there." I mean if it posed a significant safety hazard it would have been demoed by now. (Remember this is Owosso we are talking about) They don't leave this stuff just sitting around for years.

On Tuesday demolition will begin, but the lobby, balcony, auditorium floor and stage house will stay.

I knew they wouldn't try rebuild the auditorium portion piece by piece like it was before the fire. It would be nice to see a fancy state of the art facility though. It might be kind of cool walking in through the historic lobby and then into a modern auditorium space.
