The only subways I have been on have been the Paris and Lyon metros in France. I saw mention earlier about rubber tires. Is that rare? If I'm not mistaken, I think the cars in the Lyon metro have rubber tires.

It is pretty rare, Paris, Montreal, and (I think) Cairo have them too (I seem to remember that the Cairo system was a French design).

Hong Kong MRT and KCR to Guangzhou

SF Muni and Bart

San Jose light rail

Toronto

Montreal

Sacramento light rail

Vancouver

Los Angeles

San Diego

I can't believe BART was USA's top transit system! It's very, very noisy whenever the train turns and the wheels screech since it happens in a confined space, the noise levels are horrendous  and now, everytime I take BART, I take earmuffs to allay the sound. HK MRT is probably the best mass transit system I've ever took. :D

Im actually not too suprised BART was named "Best Transit System in America" by the Transportation Board. Its always on time, clean (comparatively! :P ), and has a modern ticket system. BART just finished a systemwide renovation and now it seems everything is in better order... Well, almost. Its true, BART is noisy, but it isnt that noisy compared to older transit systems such as subways in NY, Boston, and Chicago. REALLY. you should ride the "s" line in NY; came out with an ear ache. I think the quietest subway system is the red line in LA (read: LINE) and the Seoul, Korea subway. ACtually, i think Seoul's Subway is the best in the world.

New York and Boston stand out for the age of their stations - I like the old/semi dirty small stations, they have character.

Washington

Atlanta

Los Angeles

New York

London

Singapore (MRT)

Hong Kong (MTR)

Shanghai

Beijing

All things considered, I think Singapore was the best. I went to high school there though and have a lot of good memories of weekends just riding it out to some weird place. You gotta love the signs prohibiting durians and the announcements in four languages FOR EACH STOP (English, Mandarin, Malay, Hindi).
