Groundbreaking of the Art Museum

I love that this is happening in Roanoke! Hopefully by the time I am there in December it will be more of a complete structure. Hopefully this will help make downtown better than it already is.

I agree Roanoke is extremely fortunate to land such a structure. Already, only half completed its getting attention and awards for its ambitious architectural style. My concern as the museum nears its completion is whether Roanoke can accomodate its visitors with only one Hotel in the downtown area? The Hotel Roanoke has very high occupancy rates and its hard now to find a room. There was a rumor of a suite type Hotel on Reserve Ave but as of now that doesn't look good. Anyway,

I guess a developer will take note of the need for another Hotel downtown after there is a demand.

Maybe Roanoke will cultivate a more laisser style, similar to Asheville, once the Museum nears completion. It could be a destination for artists, performers and musicians of all descriptions.

The Roanoke Hotel is a true gem. But the Center in the Square and market area should have a boutique hotel or two.

It could happen. The Billy's Ritz building, adjacent to the Art Museum, is going up for sale and would make a perfect boutique hotel.

Weill and McLaw, both your sets of pix of the art museum are fantastic. It's almost unbelievable that this avant garde structure is going up in Southwest Virginia!

I hope the museum's collecton is half as good as its building!
