Downtown Pics

OK, so one day I had the opportunity to go downtown and take some shots, but all I had was a cameraphone. I took my chances that the pictures would suck, and what do you know, some really do, but here goes. I stayed in the very central part of town, without taking any photos from LaVilla, northern downtown, East Bay area, or the southbank, or the riverfront for that matter. Here they are:

Looking over to Arlington, which kind of has a small skyline and a huge mall.

If downtown was known for any type of dining venue, it would be the sub shop. Name a chain, there is probably one or two of in a twenty block area!

Here is a high resolution shot :jester: of a Quizno's, a favorite of mine.

If you have seen a photothread of Jax, which is rare if I might add, then you have seen this photo before, taken from Hemming Plaza, looking at the new fed courthouse behind the Confederate Memorial.

The new Main Library has helped to create an influx of people hanging out in Hemming Plaza all day.

Busy intersection with hot dog stands, people crossing, faux streetcar (I hate those), five buses at one stop, etc.

We're startin to look like New York what with all the scaffolding and the sound of jack hammers as streets and buildings are rehabbed.

East Bay St area, nicely renovated for retail, bars, and clubs for the Superbowl, and it's still doing ok, but could always be better.

Nice variety of pictures. I've driven past Jacksonville many times but haven't gotten off the main roads to see the downtown. Many more nice older buildings than I would have thought. It gives the city character.
