Developers plan towers downtown

AUBREY COHEN

THE BELLINGHAM HERALD

Developers are planning two downtown projects that include what would be Bellingham's three tallest buildings.

The tallest would be the 20-story, 260-foot Bay View Tower, which would go on the Diamond Parking lot at 1217 N. State St., between Chestnut and Holly streets. The developer - Bay View Tower LLC - is a group of Whatcom and Skagit county residents led by Dennis Dashiell and Will Honea.

Meanwhile, developer Rick Westerop is planning an 18-story building, and a second tower in the future that could be just as tall, on the former Morse Hardware site at the south end of Railroad Avenue. Bellingham's tallest building now is the 15-story Bellingham Towers, which opened in 1930 at 119 N. Commercial St. The city has no other buildings over nine stories.

Bellingham has been growing fast for awhile now & these condos tower were a matter of time, considering growth pressures, geography, & condo role models to the north & south. With its scenary & proximity to Vancouver, BC, Seattle, the San Juan Islands, & the mountains, it is a no brainer why it is growing. Plus it is a college town to boot.
