Cool postcard, Blazer. Looks like those fine old homes on the left were torn down to make way for the dismal project-looking buildings in the photo.

I still can't believe they tore down such a gem.

^ Yeah... it looks like the old Metropolitan Gardens projects that have now been demolished for the Park Place development.

Any renderings of the future Railroad Reservation Park?  Btw, where was the old train station located?

Im not sure exactly but I thinck your looking at it. The current Amtrak Station lies in what was the basement of the old station. Those platforms you see there are part of it and still serve for Amtrak's Cresent. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

^ That is correct... the picture I posted above is of an area which will be included in the Railroad Reservation Park.

I may be wrong, but I think it was for the building of an expressway.

There was a proposal at the time (late 1960's) to build a new facility for the Social Security Administration along with a new post office and a couple of office buildings. At the time, our vision of the future definitely did not include Beaux-Arts style train depots. In the end, the federal agencies found other homes and the Expressway found its corridor.
