  1. Nice depictions richyb. When built these will definitely "bump" BRs skyline up a few notches. No one seem to mention the Regions Bank/ Laurel Tower on here anymore. There is a (construction?) fence around the New Richmond Apartments at the announced location. Is this project still a go? I hope so.
  2. If I recall correctly, the 30 story tower was proposed by former BR bank Fidelity National, which was bought out by Hibernia or others. Fidelity Homestead is NO based, so a large HQs building may not be practical here but with continued growth who knows?
  3. Thanks for the update richyb83. I agree that this area of Baton Rouge is overdue for development. It is too convenient to the CBD and LSU.
  4. I noticed the old Prince Murat/Rodeway Inn on Nicholson Dr coming down over the weekend. I am glad to see this long vacant eyesore be demolished. Anyone hear of the future for this large and high visibility location?
  5. The original street was 4 or 5 lanes wide. It was purposely designed to curve and the width was narrowed to reduce vehicular speed and make it more pedestrian friendly. Where there was originally pavement now the Piazza d'Italia complete with fountain sits where River Road turns into Government Street. Great idea! Both are state roadways. I imagine the City had to twist arms at the state level for them to approve this reduction. The City wanted the State to reduce the width of Government Street to one lane each direction with on street parking before the recent (and much needed) repaving of Government Street . The state said NO!
  6. Henner Building renovations to add much needed housing to CBD The 110-year-old Latter & Blum building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings, was sold Thursday to a group that plans to convert the property in a 108-apartment complex with office and retail space. Maritime Building LLC, led by local architect Marcel Wisznia of Wisznia & Associates, purchased the building at 800 Common St. for an undisclosed sum and will embark on a $34 million conversion that could involve the addition of a 12th floor. Originally known as The Hennen Building, it was finished in 1895 on the corner of Common and Carondelet is considered to be New Orleans first skyscraper and the first building to reach 10 stories. The building was known during its heyday for its rooftop restaurant venue, which offered good views of the Central Business District. It's made of brick, steel and concrete and decorated medallions of pelicans, eagles and Roman profiles. the link in the TP: http://www.nola.com/business/t-p/index.ssf....xml&coll=1

  11. In their two biggest games of the season, the Tigers seem to have been ill prepared by Miles. He was thoroughly out coached by both Tuberville and Meyer in the two inexcusable losses.
  12. Nice work NCB! In all of your free time (LOL) could you "insert" the other proposed projects into the CBD skyline photos? It would be interesting to see the impacts of the proposed 25 story Vantage Tower, 30 story Woolworth Tower, 22 story Tracage, 28 story Bauers St Louis Place (Winn Dixie on Basin), 17 story Riverview at Julia, and the new 28 story Harrahs Hotel.
  13. Nice photo richy. Thanks for sneaking the digital in!

  19. My skyline rankings are: Houston, Miami (including Miami Beach), Atlanta, New Orleans, Charlotte.
  20. Now I am confused. Here is the link to the TP outlining the proposed 200 Carondelet Street apartment project in the former National American Bank Building. I read earlier that the upscale Kailas Tower condominium project is now underway in the former First NBC Building. HELP!!!! Anyway it is great to see so much activity in the CBD. With the severe shortage of available housing, developers are "lining up" to renovate historical structures to provide for the high demand. This particular building once housed bank offices. It is the second announced project in the financial district in the past month. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Another New Orleans CBD building to go residential http://www.nola.com/business/t-p/index.ssf...80369213580.xml ^fla_tiger, in the future, please post articles in the above format. Thanks!
  21. An interesting pic of one of the details on the striking ElDorado Casino & Hotel.
  22. Image Shack is good, but will lock up photos for the month after a certain bandwidth is used, then open again on the 2nd of the following month. This may work for you. You might also check out Photobucket, so far no limits. No problems.
  23. Just got back from a long weekend in Shreveport. I loved walking aroung downtown, such a nice mixture of historic and modern structures. The Riverfront is great! The casinos are first class. BTRs casinos leave a lot to be desired. Baton Rouge should look to Shreveport for ideas. Here is an interesting shot down Texas Avenue towards the First United Methodist (?) church. Nice focal point.
  24. A little history lesson folks...... The Central section of Baton Rouge is undergoing a renaissance of sorts. Because of rapid growth in the area, for safety reasons, the old "Downtown Airport" was closed in the late seventies and converted into Independence Park. Its large area provided for much used park lands including an Public Gardens, Playhouse/Theatre, soccer fields, baseball/softball fields, jogging trails and picnic areas. Parts of the site were developed as a one-stop Public Safety complex, with new buildings utilized by state agencies. On a side note, FEMA is located here. The original airport: 1933 photo terminal building 1941 map 1963 map 1984 aerial of airport conversion to park 1989 aerial of park Public Safety Complex LSP Building Other developments of note in the Central area include: Wooddale Park, one of BR's original office parks outside of the CBD Wooddale Tower Mid-City is home to the Baton Rouge Community College, BR General Hospital's Main Campus and dozens of supporting companies. 25. That is a nice shot. Be careful though, that is a hairy curve with all those semis around you!
