  1. it seems the renderings do not currently include rail access to the terminal.

I would severely hope that if they are building a $650 million terminal to be completed in 2018...

and also building a billion dollar commuter rail through the state slated for completion around 2018...

and the two are just a mere 5 miles or so apart...

they would be daft not to include an extention of the rail to include this new terminal.

The economic impact of this combination could be absolutely epic!!!

Imagine a train waiting in New haven at the metronorth terminus "Bradley Express" with stops only in say Meriden and Hartford before hitting the airports new international terminal..

MTA says its between 95 and 110 minutes to New Haven from Grand Central

an express train to the airport would be no more than 40 minutes, maybe 45

So from Midtown Manhattan you could be at the airport terminal in CT in about 2.5 Hours or JFK in 1 hour

From New Haven you could be at the airport terminal in CT in about 45 minutes or JFK in 2 hours 50 minutes

From Stamford you could be at the airport terminal B at BDL or JFK in an hour and 45 minutes or so

Mind you these estimates are TOTALLY BS and based on metro north to Grand Central, then subway to Jamaica Station and Airtran to terminal 2 and does not take into account time of day, just rough estimates for train waits and of course that fact that the NH-H-S Commuter rail and its imaginary spur to the not yet finalized financed or built Terminal B at BDL...is not yet built. or finalized either.

The moral of the story is that I think Bradley would win passengers from much further south than it currently does and therefore would puck up routs and therefore more passengers, and might actually need that new terminal by 2025!

I gotta admit you have some nice ideas, and they make a lot of sense economically.

  2. Gammons: MLB coming to Connecticut? [MLB.com]

In a column for MLB.com, Peter Gammons writes that the Rays could be ready to leave Tampa Bay, and mentions New Jersey and Southern Connecticut as possible new homes. Gammons writes:

"There are smart people in the Major League Baseball offices wondering if there's hope of even discussing a potential move of the Rays to New Jersey or Southern Connecticut over certain protests from the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox and Phillies."

Click here for entire Gammons column.

This has come up before and, sure, it's fun to dream of having a team here. But for our purposes, let's state the obvious: It's not realistic.

Since nearly everyone in Connecticut has been locked in into Yankees, Red Sox or Mets fandom for generations, how much success would a new team have of developing a following? Could you see large numbers of Yankees or Red Sox fans all of a sudden becoming fans of another team? ...

It wouldn't matter if that team played down the street - Yankees, Red Sox and Mets fans will not convert. So just selling tickets - unless one of those teams are in town - will be a problem, and so would the other revenues, such as corporate sponsorship and the sale of licensed items.

Also, how would the TV work? Who would watch this team if the Yankees and Red Sox were on at the same time? Could you imagine Conn. cable companies blacking out YES, NESN and SNY to put this new team's network on exclusively in Conn.?

And finally, where would this team play? The Yale Bowl? The Rent? There is not even a temporary facility suitable for Major League Baseball anywhere in Connecticut. If they broke ground today, it would take years for the park to be ready, and in fact, with all the haggling over where it would go, how much it would cost and who would pay for it, it would take years before they could even break ground. Could they survive a seven-year lame duck period in Tampa? ... A few years ago, there was talk of building a Stadium where I-84 and I-684 meet, which would be easy to get to, but far from any downtown area that would benefit. Is our economy that much better than Florida? Who is going to support spending public money for this?

It's possible that the Rays will move, if they can't get their new stadium built there (and this is probably the real motivation for all this). But one can't envision Southern Connecticut even being considered as a site. Jersey? Maybe, though it would have many of the same issues as here. Charlotte, Nashville, Buffalo or Orlando would seem more likely.

    No chance in h-e-double-hockey-sticks

Realistically I don't think it will ever happen........ But one can dream though. The Yankees and Red Sox would never vote for such a move.

  3. I actually think this is great news.

When this program was announced, the press release led me to believe it would be located down by Hartford Hospital.

this news is essentially that St Josephs is locating its entire doctoral program downtown. Back when this was announced, there was mention of several other doctoral programs, so it is possible that this is really the creation of a downtown campus. The great thing is all of the details how they will partner with downtown businesses and such to feed the kids.

Concurred..... This will bring a lot more bodies downtown, translating into more people spending money at local businesses.

  4. Dodd is corrupt, he gets special mortgages from the companies he oversees. Dodd and Barney Frank are directly responsible for the mortgage crisis. He and Frank forced financial companies to give mortgages to people who couldn't pay them (the poor) and when they defaulted the system fell apart. Dodd snuck in the language that protected the AIG bonus everyone went nuts over.

Besides, if he is so powerful how come every year Connecticut gets back the least tax money from the Federal government of any state. Dodd does not bring home the bacon, he lets Connecticut et raped when it comes to tax fairness.

    Need more?

You think that will be enough to convince voice of reason? Dodd has got to go. I don't even care if we lose committee chairmanships and the likes. Can you imagine if Dodd was a Republican, there would of been non-stop media coverage of his corrupt actions. Plus calls for his immediate removal by Democratic leadership.
