I don't think a new arena is even on malloy's radar.....
-
Looks like Stamford is on Hartford heels from a population standpoint. Bridgeport amazingly added 1000 residents.
-
What a big waste of taxpayer money........... Hell if were gonna spend that amount of money on something, then let's get a new arena.
-
While a new arena would be nice, it's just not gonna happen right now in this economy. Although looking at these plans, i think Howard might have a winner here, and at a bargain to boot.
-
Unfortunately the economy as stated in the article is slowing things down a bit.
-
It's a no brainier!!!! Build this thing in Hartford!

Uh-Oh..............

I love how ESPN has been 'actively talking' for 11 YEARS now. If they do it, they should set up a shuttle to take tours of their studios in Bristol.
Your links don't work............

Gammons: MLB coming to Connecticut? [MLB.com]
By Dom Amore on January 28, 2010 9:44 AM {sodEmoji.|} Permalink {sodEmoji.|} Comments (2)
In a column for MLB.com, Peter Gammons writes that the Rays could be ready to leave Tampa Bay, and mentions New Jersey and Southern Connecticut as possible new homes. Gammons writes:
"There are smart people in the Major League Baseball offices wondering if there's hope of even discussing a potential move of the Rays to New Jersey or Southern Connecticut over certain protests from the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox and Phillies."
Click here for entire Gammons column.
This has come up before and, sure, it's fun to dream of having a team here. But for our purposes, let's state the obvious: It's not realistic.
Since nearly everyone in Connecticut has been locked in into Yankees, Red Sox or Mets fandom for generations, how much success would a new team have of developing a following? Could you see large numbers of Yankees or Red Sox fans all of a sudden becoming fans of another team? ...
It wouldn't matter if that team played down the street - Yankees, Red Sox and Mets fans will not convert. So just selling tickets - unless one of those teams are in town - will be a problem, and so would the other revenues, such as corporate sponsorship and the sale of licensed items.
Also, how would the TV work? Who would watch this team if the Yankees and Red Sox were on at the same time? Could you imagine Conn. cable companies blacking out YES, NESN and SNY to put this new team's network on exclusively in Conn.?
And finally, where would this team play? The Yale Bowl? The Rent? There is not even a temporary facility suitable for Major League Baseball anywhere in Connecticut. If they broke ground today, it would take years for the park to be ready, and in fact, with all the haggling over where it would go, how much it would cost and who would pay for it, it would take years before they could even break ground. Could they survive a seven-year lame duck period in Tampa? ... A few years ago, there was talk of building a Stadium where I-84 and I-684 meet, which would be easy to get to, but far from any downtown area that would benefit. Is our economy that much better than Florida? Who is going to support spending public money for this?
It's possible that the Rays will move, if they can't get their new stadium built there (and this is probably the real motivation for all this). But one can't envision Southern Connecticut even being considered as a site. Jersey? Maybe, though it would have many of the same issues as here. Charlotte, Nashville, Buffalo or Orlando would seem more likely.
No chance in h-e-double-hockey-sticks
Realistically I don't think it will ever happen........ But one can dream though. The Yankees and Red Sox would never vote for such a move.

why the eff isn't Hartford in the Top 100?

Looks like Providence didn't make the cut either.

I actually think this is great news.
When this program was announced, the press release led me to believe it would be located down by Hartford Hospital.
this news is essentially that St Josephs is locating its entire doctoral program downtown. Back when this was announced, there was mention of several other doctoral programs, so it is possible that this is really the creation of a downtown campus. The great thing is all of the details how they will partner with downtown businesses and such to feed the kids.
Concurred..... This will bring a lot more bodies downtown, translating into more people spending money at local businesses.

WOW!!!!! New Haven is definitely on a role! Glad to see one CT city getting things done! Mayor Perez are you watching?
-
I'm not surprised considering the state of the economy.

Illness............

Glad to see construction crews actually working down there.

Anyone think we could get Charlie Wang to move the Islanders to Hartford along with his $3.4 billion development plan?
Think about that.
One could only dream.

Dodd is corrupt, he gets special mortgages from the companies he oversees. Dodd and Barney Frank are directly responsible for the mortgage crisis. He and Frank forced financial companies to give mortgages to people who couldn't pay them (the poor) and when they defaulted the system fell apart. Dodd snuck in the language that protected the AIG bonus everyone went nuts over.
Besides, if he is so powerful how come every year Connecticut gets back the least tax money from the Federal government of any state. Dodd does not bring home the bacon, he lets Connecticut et raped when it comes to tax fairness.
Need more?
You think that will be enough to convince voice of reason? Dodd has got to go. I don't even care if we lose committee chairmanships and the likes. Can you imagine if Dodd was a Republican, there would of been non-stop media coverage of his corrupt actions. Plus calls for his immediate removal by Democratic leadership.

I'm all for privatization, but in all honesty I think the State shouldn't sell it.

I'm good with 10-12 floors...
So am I........... Anything is better than a parking lot.

Rome would never happen, the airport isn't as big to offer connection possibilities like Paris or Amsterdam.
Are you kidding me???? Rome's airport is huge! Why do you think it's not a good hub?
-
That would be awesome!!!!! Lets hope the developers keep to the time table.
-
Not Jet. I probably shouldnt say anything else until they have a deal closed. I understand they are very close.
Come on..... Throw us a bone!!!!!
-
Why doesn't the State just get rid of this guy and start over? Hasn't enough time already been wasted with this fool.

Downtown Middletown is great - the feel is much more authentic than West Hartford Center. My friends and I often drive there to walk around and eat.
I'm from Middletown and I amazed how much the city has progressed in the last ten years. Downtown has definitely come alive.

I gotta admit you have some nice ideas, and they make a lot of sense economically.
