So when can we expect to see some dirt moving?
-
About 10 years ago i must have been about 13, all i could hear was my older siblings talking about wanting to go Church St. It was the place to go, I want that to return and with 55w solarie/plaza going up it will. BTW, we were tourist and were in the IDrive area. Never had any intentions back then to live here, because i did not know the real Orlando. Thanks to UCF now I AM HERE and loving it! KEEP THE ARENA DOWNTOWN!

I-Drive is a part of Orlando, no doubt. It's a tourist-centric, not resident-centric part of Orlando. It's a part of Orlando that we're trying to diversify beyond. And amenities are relative. I-Drive has tourist-centric amenities.
---
I-Drive = Ripley's.
Downtown = History Center.
I-Drive = SeaWorld.
Downtown = Lake Eola/Lake Ivanhoe (not as tight of a correlation, I realize)
I-Drive = convention/family-oriented hotels.
Downtown = the Grand Bohemian.
I-Drive = tourists running across 4 to 6 lane roads and getting trapped in big, grassy medians, while walking 1/2mile or more from one destination to the next.
Downtown = business persons, residents, and some tourists too, enjoying an increasingly urban streetscape.
I-Drive = convention center.
Downtown = arena, performing arts, civic venues.

I think Orlando is great for having I-Drive, and I think most people on these boards would agree that it's an asset...but definitely not at the expense of downtown. Orlando's greatness will be defined by the success of both, not by one replacing the other.
WELL SAID! In the end i believe downtown will be a better place once all these towers and redevelopment happens. It will be a place were RESIDENTS go and I-DRIVE will just be where residents go to feel like tourist!

I agree, and totally see why the hotelers would want it on IDrive, more money for them. But who is the arena really for? Anybody who is for the arena on Idrive does not really have the best interest of the CITY in mind.
-
Seriously, this is now my 5th year here in Orlando and I am fan a of keeping the arena in the downtown area. I-drive is just a tourist area and thats what it will be. The arena should be kept downtown at whatever cost.

IT SHOULD STAY DOWNTOWN, DONE!
I rather go see the magic Downtown then go down to TOURISTVILLE. Downtown's new atmosphere will be great, with all the new developments.

Does anyone know the number of investors that purchased at the salaire. Thanks in advance.
According to one of the Sales rep at Trandition Tower who was also involved with this project. She said it was alot of investors and she expects a lot of rentals once its done. She made it seem like it would be all rentals.

That Photo is now my computer background. Beautiful shot.

I know its a lil far fetched but how about UCF's New convocation center they are building? COuld they play there in the meantime? Scheduling would probably be an issue.

I cant say I like either of the two stadiums or arenas posted on here. I am personally a fan of the American Airlines Arena down in Miami. That place is sweet!

Anybody know what the bridge going up on 436 between University and Aloma will be for?

No more UCF games in the Citrus bowl after this year. But i could Imagine UCF playing in their OWN ON CAMPUS! stadium and then going to see NFL team on Sunday at the citrus bowl. GO KNIGHTS!

This is a good article on Suburbia and its long terms effects. Is this the rigth forum? I remember a thread where the suburban lifestyle was discussed.

Watch the news tonight, some lil bird told me about some agreement the mayors had come to about the resort tax.

Good article on international buyers. Orlando makes it in there.
