  1. I'm anxious to see how Yard House does. I just wonder how they'll do with Gordon Biersch right there in Town Center as well...GB's know for its beers as well.

they should do very well, i would think. they are hitting two distinct markets. Gordon Biersch is for people who like the six or so beers they offer, that's it. Yard House will cater to people who want to try something new, who like unique beers, and will have a different type of food. I can't wait to go when they open!

  2. If one of the most costly parts of a VB light real would be the overpasses, why not keep the LRT at grade and lower the road? Just like monticello ave, hampton blvd, brambleton blvd, and the new project by NIT. It has to be cheaper to lower the road given the approach distance to raise a rail line

i think that highly unlikely... to make the road an underpass, you have to have the same approach distance. you would first have to build some sort of temporary road to reroute the traffic. you would have to dig down, build concrete walls, put in some extremely effective drainage system, etc.

  3. I do not think its possible for construction to be complete by October 5th. They still have alot of work that is not complete following the big storm that is currently in our area. The rain and wind and such will just delay the project until November at the lastest

Read what it says. It says installation of one particular thing.

  4. Looks like a great idea, Va Beach is really pushing hard on this radar issue.

    http://hamptonroads.com/2010/09/virginia-beach-looks-buying-offshore-platform

it is a good, outside of the box idea, but a complete waste of time. I (oddly enough) agree with most of the people posting replies about:

    1) Security... I have no doubt that it could hold up to a hurricane, as waves are less severe that far out, however security and keeping it from being tampered with is a problem.

    2) Why would the CITY buy the tower? If the radar is moved, it should be federal property, not city. The city owning it would mean they would have to be liable for any damage and maintenance.

    3) Move the thing to Damn Neck or Fort Story or the Eastern Shore or Sandbridge or North Carolina.

  5. Yeah my apologies. Dave and Busters a more highend of Jillians. Owned by the same company is moving into town center. There will not be 2 Jillians. Jillians will be in Greenbrier but Dave and Busters. A more upscale type of establishment as Jillians will be at town center... Again sorry for the mixup

that's what i was asking you before and you said no... where is the proof though?

  6. Well that is not what I hear. I know a guy who does the events for Jillians. The Company Dave & Buster realized Town Center was a better location. Most of their establishments are in town center areas.

You are talking about Jillians but mention Dave & Busters....

    1) I am not sure but are they owned by the same company?

    2) I COULD see a Dave & Busters coming to VB. You sure they aren't moving Jillians to Chesapeake and D&B is considering coming to VB?

  7. Hey, everyone. I'm new here. I don't know if anyone's posted any threads about this yet, but the Virginia Aquarium will be opening its Restless Planet exhibit on Nov. 21st. There are going to be Komodo dragons, rare tomistoma crocodiles, and a 40-foot acrylic tunnel through a Red Sea-themed tank, among other things. It's been advertised extensively on the Pilot, but I didn't know if anyone here really knew much about it. I think when Restless Planet opens this fall--along with the Virginia Zoo's new Trail of the Tiger exhibits in 2010--they will serve as major draws to the area and encourage people who vacation here to return every summer.

    Welcome!

No, I personally have not seen anything on the forums yet about that but it does sound pretty cool.

I must however respectfully disagree with your comment about the aquarium and the zoo being a major draw to the area... The reason being is that the aquarium is a secondary feature of the tourist draw, which is the beach itself. Sure it is something to do while they are here, but they wouldn't be here without the beach. The zoo is too far for any VB tourists to go I would think, but it may be a draw for people visiting Norfolk. Again though, people don't just visit Norfolk unless they are on a cruise or visiting family/friends. I would argue that the zoo is secondary as well. I am sure it may be on the list of things to do that make a family choose one beach over the other (not this specifically but looking overall at all they can do) but again, the main draw is the beach itself.

PS: Who knows, maybe I am reading too much into what you said... if so, sorry!

    Once again, welcome!

  8. These don't look urban at all. I hope phase 2 looks better.. This looks like something in Kempsville! & this is supposed to be Va Beach's emerging downtown? Umm, no. Will the 15 story buildings be visible from 264? Will it add to the "skyline"

They don't look urban but they do look nice! i would imagine the next phase, being bigger, should be visible from 264

  9. I wonder what they'll do in the Rebranding & Marketing step.. Hopefully change the name from Pembroke and Town Center to something more appealing..

I would imagine that they will drop "Town Center" and come up with a more universal name... It might be an area with two or three names, with only one being 'official'... It will always be Pembroke... Hopefully we can ditch Town Center... Then I would think some will call it downtown, and the city will probably try and come up with another 'catchy' but still stupid name...

  10. Town Center is filling in all its emty spaces for shops and businesses. Columbus street is a lot different looking now that the Virginia Pilot, Saffron, and the University of Phoenix are coming in. This is a sign that demand to be at Town Center is definitaly high. Also, at Two Columbus Center, it looks like they are doing something on the left side of the ground floor.

    Saffron?

  11. I would have thought Norfolk's runway was too short.

For any other plane, it would be, however this aircraft was designed to be able to land and take off on some of the shortest runways/fields in the world!

    why was it in norfolk?

PS: That would have been a sight!... to see that thing landing flying over the interstate!

Oh, and the article linked to above says a "load of helicopters" but it doesn't say what kind or where to or why...

  12. hahaha page 32... look at where the Taco Bell is (Find the AH and Westin towers and then you can figure it out). Looks like they plan a building to wrap around Taco Bell, not expecting it to go anywhere any time soon!

Anyway it really is amazing how much bigger/denser it looks when Pembroke Mall is redeveloped!

  13. Some of the 'opportunities' for Pembroke:

    -"Great Opportunity for Sports Arena"

-"City Government center relocated here, would strengthen identity of city."

    WOW Page 32 is intense!

So is 33, with an arena there! It also shows VB Blvd getting some modifications, included what looks like the road splitting from the two sides with a park in between!

  14. I'd like to see chains that serve healthier food, but not overpriced as it being trendy.

Many of us Americans could use it (me included).

I would like to see a Metro Silver Diner open up there... It is owned by the Silver Diner chain, but it is entirely organic, everything is under $10.00, and I find it all to be very tasty. It is more Noodles & Company/Pei Wei style where you come in, the menu is on a screen, walk up, place your oder, and then they bring you the food and you don't have to tip or clean up. Oh, Noodles or Pei Wei would also be good there...
